Job Description

University of Iowa Health Care Department of & Visual Sciences is seeking a 100% Research Assistant Kuehn Lab (PRK1; 3A). The Research Assistant conducts applied research at the intersection of ophthalmology and data science with a focus on predictive modeling clinical data standardization and early disease detection in the lab of Markus Kuehn PhD. This position collaborates with clinicians and researchers to develop machine learning tools and data pipelines that enhance diagnostic accuracy and clinical decision-making in eye care.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead development of machine learning models for early detection of ocular diseases including autoimmune retinopathies and glaucoma.
  • Design and implement custom data extraction tools for ophthalmology electronic medical records (e.g. PDF parsing of diagnostic metrics).
  • Collaborate with ophthalmologists to interpret model outputs and refine diagnostic criteria.
  • Collaborate and assist laboratory personnel with analysis of tests
  • Prepare scientific manuscripts technical reports and visualizations for publication and presentation.
  • Assist in writing grant proposals and research funding applications.

Percent of Time: 100%

Schedule: Preferred schedule Monday - Friday 8:00a-5:00p. Schedule may be modified to fit candidate and lab needs.

Location: UIHC Iowa City

On Campus: This position is performed fully on campus.

Pay Level: 3A
