A Brief Overview

Responsible for coordinating patient/customer pretesting appointments dispensing eyewear and responding to questions. Assists the physician with diagnostic testing examinations and provides explanation of testing and treatment plan to assure patient/customer understanding.

What you will do

  • Accurately operates lensometer OCT IOL master biometry FA visual fields Auto-refractor acuity meter automated tonometer machine keratometer projector slit lamp and application tonometry.
  • Performs receptionist duties scheduling appointments and referrals.
  • Rooms patient/customer and prepares them for examination or procedure. Obtains vital signs as needed medical history performs beginning examination tests based on reason for visit and preparing equipment as needed for the physician.
  • Remains competent of optics repair and adjusting eyewear.
  • Administers topical medications or diagnostic medications prescribed by the physician for testing or treatment.
  • Demonstrates appropriate judgment and decision making. Refers unsolved problems to the appropriate person. Resourceful and effective in dealing with stressful and/or emergency situation in a professional manner.
  • Handles billing of retail billing within the appropriate software system to include glasses contacts and related eyewear.
  • Responsible for clinic inventory of retail supply items and pricing of these items within the software system.
  • Responsible for accurate billing of supplies and verification is met per patients insurance company.
  • Coordinates staff schedules to make sure needs of clinic are met and handles time card verification each payroll.

Essential Qualifications

The individual must be able to work the hours specified. To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential job function satisfactorily including having visual acuity adequate to perform position duties and the ability to communicate effectively with others hear understand and distinguish speech and other sounds. Required Education License/Certification or Work Experience:

  • High School or GED Equivalent

Preferred Education License/Certification or Work Experience:

  • Technical Certificate Optician program
  • ABO Certified - American Board of Opticianry (ABO)
  • 1-3 years
