Job Description

Role: Controller

Location: Toronto ON

THE OPPORTUNITY

This role is a 12-16 month maternity leave backfill starting Aug 2025.

Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Controller to join our Finance team. This role is responsible for assisting in financial planning analysis forecasting activities delivering actionable insights and supporting strategic decision-making processes. The ideal candidate has a strong analytical mindset excellent communication skills and a proven track record in corporate finance.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain the financial health of the organization with specific responsibilities for Accounting Tax Treasury compliance and controls
  • Planning directing and coordinating all accounting operational functions incl Balance sheet and reporting with UK and local teams.
  • Leading internal considerations on tax and accounting as well as external requirements with CRA and advisory firms
  • Liaise with auditors coordinating annual review and to ensure appropriate monitoring of company finances is maintained.
  • Lead the treasury and banking functions along with the VP Finance
  • Manage and comply with local state and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Correspond with various other departments discussing company plans and agreeing on future paths to be taken.
  • Staff Supervision (1x local and 2x indirect UK)

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Controller 10 years accounting and finance
  • Advanced degree in Accounting CPA preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • Experience with general ledger functions and month-end/year end close process
  • Excellent attention to detail and connecting dots across internal company data
  • Proficient user of finance software Workday and Microsoft Office suite
  • Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills
  • Able to manage guide and lead employees to ensure appropriate financial processes are being used
  • A solid understanding of financial statistics and accounting principles
  • Working knowledge of all statutory legislation and regulations
