The Kenosha Water Utility intends to fill a full-time 3rd shift WASTEWATER TREATMENT OPERATOR position at the wastewater treatment plant (7834 3rd Avenue).APPLICATIONS WILL BE REVIEWED UPON RECEIPT FOR POTENTIAL IMMEDIATE INTERVIEW. The KWU Wastewater Treatment Plant operates 24/7 with 3 Operator shifts.
1st shift Operator-on-Duty (6:00AM to 2:00PM)
2nd shift Operator-on-Duty (2:00PM to 10:00PM)
3rd shift Operator-on-Duty (10:00PMto 6:00AM)
Operator maintenance days (6:30AM to 3:00PM)
The 3rd shift Operator operates on a 14-day work schedule rotation working 10 days straightwhich consists of 3 days working plant maintenance on 1st shift (Monday through Wednesday) followed by 7 days as the 3rd shift plant Operator-on-Duty (Thursday through Wednesday)and then 4 days off(Thursday through Sunday of the second week).The Operator receives a $1.50/hour shift differential when operating on 3rd shift.
GENERAL OVERVIEW OF THE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR POSITION:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Wastewater Treatment (or Lead Operator or other designee) this position operates regulates and maintains the municipal wastewater treatment plant facilities and equipment; and performs related work as required. The incumbent must obtain the required Operator certification(outlined in the Requirements section of this posting)during the probationary period or other time frame outlined by management.
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:(illustrative only)
Operates and maintains a 28MGD conventional activated sludge plant biosolids processing and power generating equipment.
Monitors flow meters gauges and process meter readings and makes equipment adjustments to maintain proper operation of wastewater systems.
Starts and stops motors and engines as needed; checks equipment readings and records data; makes necessary adjustments.
Collects samples of sludge biosolids centrate and wastewater.
Flushes tanks and equipment with fire hose; makes minor adjustments and repairs to operating equipment and assists in major repairs.
Operates lever and chain operated valves.
Performs routine inspection and as needed maintenance of equipment.
Assists in maintenance cleaning and inspection at lift stations and the equalization basin.
Observes chemical feed systems and adjusts for proper operation; changes chlorine and sulfur dioxide tanks as needed.
Operates and maintains a variety of hand and power tools.
Keeps records writes reports and enters data into LIMS system.
Maintains plant security on nights and weekends.
Performs minor laboratory testing including chlorine and pH analysis.
OTHER REQUIRED DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:(illustrative only)
Drives container truck dump truck and loader to handle grit and solids.
Drives and operates forklift for chemicals deliveries and screenings.
Performs general housekeeping including cleaning washing and painting buildings and equipment.
Perform grounds-keeping and landscaping duties.
Moves equipment and supplies.
May be required to assist in snow and ice removal activities.
Attends meetings and seminars.
Performs other related duties as required.

Required Education Training and Experience:
High school diploma G.E.D. or equivalent.
Related work experience involving plant operations and maintenance preferably at a sewage or wastewater treatment facility (or similar industry).
Formal course work or training in wastewater treatment water chemistry maintenance mechanics facility maintenance or other related field may be helpful.
Current Wisconsin Wastewater Operator or comparable certification highly desired by not required. If such certification is not possessed the incumbentmust obtain the following Wastewater Operator certification and shall be required to maintain such certification during employment in this job classification.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment.
Working knowledge of minor mechanical repairs and equipment adjustments.
Ability to make accurate observations and recordings of plant operation.
Ability to perform mechanical and maintenance duties.
Ability to establish effective public relationships.
Ability to keep records and make reports.
Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
Ability to handle reasonably necessary stress.
Physical Requirements:
Job tasks may involve the regular and at times sustained performance of heavier physical tasks such as walking over rough or uneven surfaces bending stooping working in confined spaces and lifting or carrying moderately heavy (20-50 pound) items and
Job tasks may involve the complex operation of gasoline electric or dieselpowered machinery or shop equipment requiring the manipulation of multiple controls fine adjustments or both; or the sustained operation of associated equipment.
Job tasks may involve the continuous operation of hand tools calling for full coordination of sensory and manipulative ability in order to achieve full production to acceptable standards.
Job tasks may involve entering and working in confined spaces.
Job tasks may involve ascending and descending stairs or ladders.
Environmental Requirements:
Job tasks may require frequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
Sensory Requirements:

Additional Requirements:
Possession of valid drivers license and a good driving record.
