General Overview of Position

TheKenosha Water Utility (KWU) provides municipal water and wastewater services to nearly 110000 people in the greater Kenosha metropolitan area of southeastern Wisconsin which is ideally located on Lake Michigan between Milwaukee and Chicago. The Kenosha Water Utility intends to fill a full-time 3rd shift WASTEWATER TREATMENT OPERATOR position at the wastewater treatment plant (7834 3rd Avenue).APPLICATIONS WILL BE REVIEWED UPON RECEIPT FOR POTENTIAL IMMEDIATE INTERVIEW. The Kenosha Water Utility (City of Kenosha) offers a full benefit package including pension paid vacation holidays and sick leave health/dental/life insurance paid compensatory time and overtime for emergency work outside of regular 8-work day tuition reimbursement and other provisions. Appointment to this position requires satisfactory completion of a 6-month probationary period to acquire permanent status. The Kenosha Water Utility has a 17-step compensation plan and the above pay scale reflects the first and top steps of this plan. Starting pay will be based on the candidates related experience as compared to current incumbents and any budgetary constraints. Future pay (step) increases are at 1-year intervals and are contingent upon satisfactory annual performance evaluations.


The KWU Wastewater Treatment Plant operates 24/7 with 3 Operator shifts.

  • 1st shift Operator-on-Duty (6:00AM to 2:00PM)

  • 2nd shift Operator-on-Duty (2:00PM to 10:00PM)

  • 3rd shift Operator-on-Duty (10:00PMto 6:00AM)

  • Operator maintenance days (6:30AM to 3:00PM)

The 3rd shift Operator operates on a 14-day work schedule rotation working 10 days straightwhich consists of 3 days working plant maintenance on 1st shift (Monday through Wednesday) followed by 7 days as the 3rd shift plant Operator-on-Duty (Thursday through Wednesday)and then 4 days off(Thursday through Sunday of the second week).The Operator receives a $1.50/hour shift differential when operating on 3rd shift.


GENERAL OVERVIEW OF THE WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT OPERATOR POSITION:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Wastewater Treatment (or Lead Operator or other designee) this position operates regulates and maintains the municipal wastewater treatment plant facilities and equipment; and performs related work as required. The incumbent must obtain the required Operator certification(outlined in the Requirements section of this posting)during the probationary period or other time frame outlined by management.
