Special Education Paraprofessional

Early Childhood Program

Woburn Public Schools is actively seeking candidates who are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive school community. These positions play a critical role in supporting students with diverse learning needs and collaborating with educators to ensure all students have access to high-quality instruction and services.

Paraprofessionals support the instruction of students with disabilities in various settings including general education classrooms and small-group environments. This role involves working with students with moderate to severe disabilities and implementing programs aligned with students IEPs. Responsibilities may include supporting Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) mental health needs therapeutic and academic instruction and discrete trial training across different specialized programs.

Terms of Employment: Are outlined in the agreement between The Woburn Teachers Association and The Woburn School Committee.

Salary:

  • Starting salary is $30546.18 (Hourly Rate of $25.71)
  • The school year consists of 180.5 work days

Work Hours:

  • Elementary Schools : 8:25 a.m. to 2:50 p.m.
  • Middle Schools: 8:00 a.m. to 2:25 p.m.
  • High School: 7:30 a.m. to 2:01 p.m.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise students across all environments.
  • Support students academically emotionally behaviorally socially and with ADLs in the school setting.
  • Work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team of teachers BCBA and related service providers.
  • Collect data on student learning and behavior goals as needed.
  • Facilitate inclusion in general education classrooms.
  • Knowledge of special education procedures school classroom procedures including preparation and maintenance of records as requested by the classroom teacher or SPEd Team.
  • Participate in consultation with special education teachers and related service providers.
  • Ongoing communication with the program SPED team and building staff on behalf of the students.
  • Assist special education teachers in all other duties as needed.

Qualifications and Skill Set:

  • Minimum of a High School diploma; Associates or Bachelors degree preferred
  • Safety Care certified or ability to become certified
  • Experience working with students with disabilities preferred (or willingness to receive training)
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently
  • Ability to remain calm and de-escalate challenging behaviors
  • Calm and neutral demeanor
  • Reliable well-organized and exercises sound judgment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Willingness to support students in academic tasks social skills development and activities of daily living as needed

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this role the employee is regularly required to stand walk use their hands speak and hear. The position may also require reaching overhead or forward as well as sitting squatting stooping or kneeling. The employee must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include the ability to see up close and at a distance use peripheral vision perceive depth and adjust focus.
