Job Description

Primary Responsibilities
Function: Coordinator of Technical Services and Outreach based at Bryan Wildenthal Memorial Library with service to SRSU Library and Archives online and Eagle Pass Library Services. Scope: SRSU Library and Archives staff may be responsible for a variety of areas depending on need. Technical Services includes activities related to the acquisition processing cataloging maintenance and eventual deaccessioning of a wide variety of formats and items for the holdings of the library and archives. Outreach includes activities related to promoting awareness and use of department spaces services and resources. Collaborates with all staff. This position utilizes the integrated library system ( ILS ) SirsiDynix Symphony to create and maintain records troubleshoot and generally make resources available and usable. May be responsible for ordering receiving coordinating binding and cataloging of physical books eBooks serials/periodicals standing orders and special items. May be responsible for updating and maintaining related policies relevant to industry standards and best practices. Works with Director and Operations Supervisor to ensure smooth procurement processes. May supervise Library Assistants and/or Student Assistants. Acts as public-facing staff available for research consultations and instruction services. May be responsible for creating and maintaining research tutorials guides and other supporting documentation. Primary Responsibilities (45%) Coordinates all activities and services related to Technical Services. Physical and digital content acquisitions (collection development) for the librarys collections across all formats. May contribute to collection development for the Archives of the Big Bend. Cataloging and classification specifically original cataloging. Serials/periodicals ordering and maintenance. Analysis of and data tracking for collections-related purchases. May negotiate with vendors directly. Cross-trained in InterLibrary Services. Hires trains evaluates and supports Library Assistants and Student Assistants in Technical Services area. (35%) Coordinates outreach for the department and contributes to education such as through research consultations and instruction services participating in Desk coverage potentially including nights and weekends. Coordinates social media and other promotion for Library and Archives. Coordinates and facilitates Library Research Workshops as a support service including coordination and promotion of workshops using library software. Creates/maintains Library Research Guides and Tutorials as a support service. (10%) Maintains accurate statistics submits required reports and budget requests. Keeps current of trends related to technical services. Participates in strategic planning for the department. (5%) Serves on University Committees and Councils and other working groups in areas relevant to the position. (5%) Performs other reasonable duties as required by the supervisor. Supervision Received: Director of Library and Archives. Given: Supervises Library Assistant in Cataloging Library Assistant in Serials and ILL as well as Student Assistant(s). Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times.
