Nature of Work


Special Hiring Rate: $36533

The Facility Equipment Maintenance Technician performs an important support role within the Northern Regional Jail & Correctional Centers maintenance department. This non-uniformed employee will be responsible for the operations of the area of assignment as well as supervising the inmates assigned there. They would be responsible for following WVDCR policies operational procedures post orders and all applicable federal and state laws rules and regulations. This employee will be responsible for the acquisitions and inventory control of all materials supplies and equipment necessary for the operating of the designated areas and perform related work as necessary.

To assist in the maintenance of all facility areas such as the lift station generators grounds equipment and maintain the uninterrupted service of all utilities such as plumbing electrical HVAC sewage all building structures. The employee will be responsible to maintain a preventative maintenance program check approve and assign work orders construction priorities and establish priorities. To organize and direct the work of skilled and semi-skilled trade-workers performing facilities maintenance and repair.

The non-uniformed employee would be responsible for a working knowledge of all or most of the following: including but not limited to carpentry masonry lawn equipment dump trucks forklifts backhoes welding reading blueprints safe operations of power tools and heavy equipment painting electrical plumbing roofing and other maintenance skills. They must have knowledge of a variety of maintenance trade skills to help maintain the daily operations of this unique facility.

County/Counties: Marshall Ohio

  • In accordance with SPB 3088 effective 10/7/23 $5000 will be added to the minimum starting rate of pay for all classifications within a Critical Vacancy Pay Supplemental Facility. Critical Vacancy Pay Facilities: Huttonsville Correctional Center and Jail Mount Olive Correctional Complex and Jail Western Regional Jail and Corrections Facility Northern Correctional Facility (including Ohio County Correctional Center) Northern Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Chick Buckbee Juvenile Center Vicki Douglas Juvenile Center Potomac Highlands Regional Jail and Correctional Facility and Eastern Regional Jail and Corrections Facility (including Martinsburg Correctional Center) (SPB 3088).

  • Employees in this classification shall receive an annual base building pay differential each fiscal year of $250 after completing one year of service.

  • If an employee is hired into a Critical Vacancy Pay Facility (CVPF) and leaves the facility the additional pay differential of $5000 shall be removed from their salary unless transferring to another CVPF.

Minimum Qualifications

Training: Graduation from a standard four-year high school or GED or four year apprenticeship program or two year post secondary technical school.


Experience:Four years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in heating cooling ventilation or the mechanical or building trades such as plumbing electrical carpentry plasterer painter welder machinist mechanic or masonry work.

Special Requirement:Specific positions may require certification from a federal EPA approved testing organization as a certified technician required by the clean Air Act on refrigerant recycling.
