TITLE: Music Teacher - ElementarySUMMARY: Reporting to the Building Principal the Elementary School Music Teacher is responsible for teaching music education to pupils in grades K-5 assisting staff in the improvement and appreciation of music instruction helping students grow in their enjoyment appreciation and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which include singing moving to music playing of instruments and listening to DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Teaches skills in music understanding/appreciation harmony explorations in music and choral music to elementary the storage and use of school-owned property. Maintains care/responsibility for school-owned music musical instruments and musical equipment to prevent loss or abuse. Makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as each pupils musical growth and performance assessing individual contributions to the performance of the rehearses and directs students in musical programs for school and a balanced music program and organizes class time so that preparation rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted individual and small group instruction to adapt the music curriculum to the needs of each student; encourages students to develop individual musical skills to the greatest extent repertoire of all types of music literature including traditional and contemporary that areappropriate for the ages and skill levels of each students musical growth performance and musical understanding. Selects appropriate music books and instructional aids to enhance learning and requisitions musical instruments and instructional supplies as with Building Principal and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies open house parent meetings and seasonal with parents and school staff on individual students QUALIFICATIONS:Education and ExperienceBachelors Degree in Music from an accredited college/university. Licensed or eligible for licensure in Music by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as well as evidence of meeting all Massachusetts Department of Education Teaching Certification requirements from the Commonwealth of Skills and AbilitiesKnowledge of maintaining accurate and complete records as required by law and district policy. Skill in guiding the learning process toward achievement of curriculum goals and establishing and communicating clear objectives for all lessons units and to play at least one standard orchestral instrument; demonstrate knowledge skill and ability to provide instruction in an elementary music setting with singing playing conducting and musical literature; work cooperatively with students parents peers administration and community members; employ a variety of instructional techniques/ DEMANDS:While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods; frequently required to position oneself to demonstrate musical technique; move or lift up to 25 lbs.
