About Stride:

About the service:

The Medicare Mental Health Services are free and you do not need an appointment referral or Medicare card to visit a Medicare Mental Health Centre. The new services in Devonport Burnie and Outer Hobart are co-funded by the Australian and Tasmanian Governments to provide a streamlined approach to support better mental health and social wellbeing across the country.

The service is tailored to the needs of the community in Tasmania and provides a combination of peer-integrated recovery and clinical support.

The Medicare Mental Health Centre provides a safe welcoming and supportive environment for people experiencing psychological distress allowing them to:

  • Identify alternatives to presenting to the Emergency Department
  • Access support from trained mental health professionals within their community outside a clinical setting

Role overview:

  • Deliver quality psychosocial assessment low-intensity brief intervention treatment and evaluation
  • Brief Intervention Model of care; up to 6 sessions for mild-moderate short term goal orientated focused psychological therapy and generalist counselling.
  • Participate as a member of the Medicare Mental Health Centre clinical team in providing comprehensive mental health assessment case coordination intervention or group work as required; with specific responsibility to provide Brief Interventions
  • Complete Intake Assessments as required

Requirements:

  • Must have one of the following: General or Provisional AHPRA registration as a Psychologist Clinical Psychologist Mental Health Occupational Therapist OR Mental Health Nurse OR AASW registration as an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker
  • Demonstrated a comprehensive level of knowledge expertise and skill; specifically Brief Intervention Models of Care Commitment to professional development and willingness to participate in a continuous learning environment
  • Well-developed judgment and evaluation skills demonstrating a working understanding assessment and care planning
  • Sound understanding of the public non-government and private mental health systems and programs and associated non-mental health programs in a community setting
  • Ideally demonstrated experience in providing alcohol and other drugs (AOD) counselling and support
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills showing an ability and sensitivity to work with people who have or are at risk of developing a mental illness
  • Proven ability to work creatively collaboratively and effectively as a member of a team
  • Demonstrated skills in organisation and time-management including the ability to work under pressure and balance multiple tasks
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills
  • Must be eligible to apply/currently hold a WWCC
  • Must hold/be willing to apply for NDIS worker screening clearance
