An opportunity has arisen for an individual(s) to join the enthusiastic and forward-looking team of clinical dental tutors and academics at the University of Birmingham Department of Periodontology teaching undergraduate dental students registered on the BDS degree programme. Teaching on the open plan clinics supervising patient care at the Birmingham Dental Hospital and Department of Dentistry provides an excellent opportunity to shape the future dental professional using modern assessment and feedback technologies. The state-of-the-art Dental School and Hospital opened in 2016 as the first integrated stand-alone facility of its kind in the UK for almost 40 years. Students have access to modern dental equipment to ensure they get the clinical experience they need to enter the profession upon graduation.

College Overview and Structure
The College of Medicine and Health (CMH) is the largest of the Universitys five Colleges with over 1700 members of staff ensuring teaching and research excellence across a wide range of pre-clinical and clinical disciplines.
The College structure is aligned under three schools (Principal Academic Units): the School of Medical Sciences the School of Health Sciences and the School of Infection Inflammation and Immunology. Within these three schools sit fifteen different departments including our clinical trials units:

Role Summary
The Department of Dentistry is looking to appoint Clinical Dental Tutor(s) to work under the direction of thelead for Periodontology Undergraduate Teaching and the Head of Department. To undertake clinical teaching and/or laboratory based simulation teaching and associated administrative duties including progress monitoring report writing and feeding into the Departments reporting processes. The demonstration of initiative in contributing actively to the continued development and improvement of the teaching programme is welcomed and expected.
To take responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of patients under student care. To ensure that patient treatment by students is carried out with minimal trauma and discomfort ensuring infection prevention and control measures are followed and not involving any danger to patient health. The care of patients takes precedence over academic concerns.
Clinical teaching sessions run through the day (08:30-12:30 morning and 13:00-17:00 afternoon). The post holder will be required to work through the day or on a sessional basis which will be agreed at the time of appointment. The post offered will either be substantive or on a fixed term basis in the first instance. Please indicate in your application your preferred working sessions and preference for a substantive or fixed term contract. Flexibility in delivery of sessions would be desirable.
