Job Description
Coast Electric is currently seeking an Underground Lineman I which may be filled as Apprentice Underground Lineman to assist in the construction maintenance and troubleshooting of underground power lines to assure that members receive uninterrupted electrical service and to assist in supervising crewmen and training apprentices. Work is performed according to Rural Utility Services (RUS) specifications and procedures and according to RUS and OSHA regulations. This position will report to Harrison County Operations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
An Underground Lineman will assist the foreman in the performance of duties when assigned. Lead the crew in the absence of the foreman. Assist in training apprentices. Work all types of energized underground primary safely without direct supervision. Operate hydraulic equipment such as the aerial digger backhoe and trencher. Assure proper depth of trenches. Installs and operates line devices and equipment such as pad-mounted switchgear sectionalizing cabinets three phase pad-mounted transformers and fused switches. Install three phase transformer banks and makes connections. Installs underground security lights and related equipment. Participate in emergency maintenance as needed on both underground and overhead lines. Become thoroughly familiar with underground cable feeds and circuits switches feeds when necessary. Inspects jobs being built by underground contractor crews. Perform trouble shooting switching and sectionalizing without direct supervision on overhead and underground systems. Locate and repair underground primary cable faults. Study and become familiar with the use of all hot line tools and equipment that are required for underground distribution. Operate all equipment and vehicles in a safe manner and observes all safety regulations; look out for the safety of self and others; immediately reports all accidents to the supervisor. Ensure that work orders are completed in a timely manner. May trim trees and brush prior to new construction during repair of damaged lines or as part of routine maintenance.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
URD Lineman: A high school graduate or equivalent is required. Must have successfully completed an apprentice lineman training program. Must have a valid Mississippi Class A commercial drivers license. Must possess a sound knowledge of RUS specifications and the National Electric Safety Code. Must have a thorough knowledge of first aid pole top rescue and CPR. Must be able to be on call and work overtime as requested. Must be able to operate associated mechanical equipment on digger/derrick and bucket trucks; must be skilled in pole climbing and in using lineman tools while working on a pole; and must be able to climb into and out of an aerial platform/bucket. Must be knowledgeable of the construction and maintenance of electric distribution lines; must be knowledgeable of the installation of meters sectionalizing devices capacitors and voltage regulators. Must have sound knowledge of the proper and safe use of tools and equipment used in line construction and maintenance both energized and de-energized; must be familiar with bucket truck operations and gloving techniques. Must have knowledge of machines and tools including their designs uses repair and maintenance. Must have knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words rules of composition and grammar to receive and convey information from and to others both orally through speech hearing and writing. Must be able to give full attention to what other people are saying taking time to understand the points being made asking questions as appropriate and not interrupting at inappropriate times. Must be able to troubleshoot and use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions conclusions or approaches to problems. Must be able to determine causes of operating errors and be able to decide what to do about it. Must be able to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. Must have good judgement and decision-making skills. Must have the ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong; it does not involve solving the problem only recognizing there is a problem. Must be able to read and understand written sentences in work related documents.
URD Apprentice Lineman IV
Must have HS Diploma or equivalent. Utility Lineman Certificate or six months of experience working in the utility industry is preferred. Must have good safety record. Must have a valid Mississippi Class A commercial drivers license. Must be able to be on call after regular working hours and work overtime as required.
Physical Demands:
Must have the ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position; to quickly move your hand your hand together with your arm or your two hands to grasp manipulate or assemble very small objects. Must have the ability to exert continuous muscular force for a short period of time to lift lower and pull heavy objects (such as poles crossarms distribution transformers OCRs capacitors wire reels etc.) using a rigging system. Must have the ability to hold large power tools such as a chain saw power drill hydraulic press or hydraulic tamp. Must have the ability to coordinate two or more limbs while sitting standing or lying down. It does not involve performing activities while the whole body is in motion. Must be able to perform work on ladders and aerial equipment. Must have the ability to see details at close range and at a distance. Must have the ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp manipulate or assemble very small objects and to quickly respond with the hand finger or foot to a signal (sound light picture) when it appears. Must have the ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift push pull or carry objects up to 50 lbs.
