Job Description
Salary range is $133k to $237k with a midpoint of $185k. New hires typically receive between minimum and midpoint however we may go slightly higher based on experience internal equity and market.

GENERAL PURPOSE:
This Deputy Chief of Staff Service Delivery position is dedicated to supporting the Service Delivery department at Sound Transit. Service Delivery is responsible for ensuring safe reliable and passenger-focused transit operations across the region working in partnership with multiple operating agencies. The department manages the day-to-day experience of our riders oversees service planning and delivery and ensures that the agencys growing network of stations facilities and vehicles is well maintained and ready to serve the public.
As the Deputy Chief of Staff embedded in this high-impact department you will work closely with the Service Delivery Chief of Staff and department leadership to coordinate key initiatives advance cross-functional priorities and ensure that executive-level activities decisions and communications are aligned with both departmental goals and agency-wide strategies. This is a dynamic and fast-paced role ideal for a collaborative systems-oriented leader who thrives at the intersection of operations policy and people.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The following duties are a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional position-specific duties.
- Serves as partner to the Service Delivery Chief of Staff (COS) by providing candid high-level advice and policy recommendations on a wide variety of programs issues and initiatives requiring Cabinet member attention or decision.
- Manages high-priority projects in the Service Delivery office which frequently involves convening cross-functional teams tracking tasks planning meetings and events and developing content.
- Research write edit and/or coordinate preparation of special reports briefings and presentations.
- Reviews and analyzes proposals inquiries recommendations and other communications forwarded to the COS and solicits comments on materials generated by the COS.
- Prepares a variety of briefings reports information papers decision papers and other materials.
- Liaises between designated departments and divisions and the COS; communicates effectively on behalf of COS.
- Participates in departmental business and goal planning problem resolution.
- Gathers investigates researches analyzes and/or studies information affecting agency-wide intradepartmental or interdepartmental operations.
- Anticipates identifies and troubleshoots issues of concern or significance; exercises discretion to provide timely information and necessary updates to the COS and across multiple other stakeholders.
- Ensures that matters and materials requiring the attention of the Cabinet member are thoroughly developed researched and evaluated; responds to routine inquiries as delegated by the COS.
- Champions and models Sound Transits core values and demonstrates values-based behaviors in everyday interactions across the agency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience: Bachelors degree in Public Administration Political Science Communications Transportation Construction Management or closely related field. Eight years of experience in transit or transportation planning engineering or construction management project or program management strategy or administrative services; Or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Six years of leadership budgetary planning and workforce management experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Strategic thinking and planning with knowledge of the goals objectives structure and operations of Sound Transit.
- Strong active listening problem-solving and conflict resolution skills proficiency in using self-assessment and self-management skills to participate effectively and constructively as a team member to ensure group success over individual goals.

- Ability to create compose and edit correspondence and other written materials using English usage spelling grammar and punctuation.

- Developing and monitoring divisional and program/project operating budgets costs and schedules.
- Exceptional organization attention to detail and follow-through.

- Work is performed in a standard hybrid office environment.
