BASIC FUNCTION:
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides direct non-licensed nursing care to patients of all age groups admitted by following the direction of their assigned nurses in accordance with Amberwell Hiawatha policy and procedures.
SHIFT DAYS/HOURS:
Day Shift: 7am-7pm. Night Shift: 7pm-7am. PRN Shifts may vary between 8 and 12 hour shifts based on need and subject to directors approval. Days are dependent upon individual schedule. Weekend and holiday rotation required. Subject to change based on business necessity.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Must be a minimum of 16 years of age. High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
Experience: At least one year of experience or comparable on-the-job training preferred. On-the-job training may be provided to a non-experienced candidate who shows proficiency and or natural aptitude towards Amberwells culture priorities. Exemption of experience will only be granted by director of unit or Chief Nursing Officer.
Certificates License Registrations: Certified Nursing Assistant certification preferred. BLS certification required. (BLS may be earned during employment).
NRP Essentials RQI-OB PCT only
Knowledge Skills Abilities: Must have a comprehensive timely knowledge of PCT practice and must be able to apply that knowledge to various situations ranging from routine to emergent. The PCT must be able to accept delegation from other staff. Maintain compliance with HIPAA patient confidentiality and facility required competencies.
Physical: Heavy work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds occasionally or 20 to 50 pounds of force frequently or 10 to 20 pounds constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for medium work.

EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS:
To reduce job hazards this position is responsible for wearing PPE during job functions. PPE can include: gloves gown/coat mask shoe covers head/face eye ear protection and CAPR. Each job function requires different level of PPE individuals receive initial and annual training to identify the appropriate level of PPE required. This position is classified Class I by OSHA and id exposed to odors infectious microorganisms and bodily fluids.
EQUIPMENT USED:
The PCT must obtain the knowledge (training will be provided) and ability to utilize the vital sign machines blood pressure (both manual and mechanical) equipment thermometers pulse oximeters aqua K pad sequential compression devices sit to stand and Hoyer lift low air loss mattress cover various scales bed and chair alarms bed pans bedside commode shower chair bedside glucose monitor bladder ultrasonography 12 lead EKG machine call light system and room work stations. Department specific requirements may include venipuncture TOCO monitoring equipment and neonatal warmer.
