Job Description

Job Summary/Basic Function:

Crisis Counselor/Case Management Coordinator provides immediate and ongoing mental health support to students in crisis serving as the primary point of contact for campus resources suicide prevention initiatives and clinical case management to include coordination of care with local hospitals mental health providers and community resources and referral sources. This role requires a highly skilled compassionate professional with a masters degree in Social Work Counseling Psychology or a related field and a strong background and/or interest in crisis intervention and mental health systems navigation.

Level Scope:

Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills policies and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees.

Essential Functions:

65% of Time the Crisis Counselor/Case Manager will perform:

Direct Clinical Services:

  • Crisis Intervention and Counseling
    • Provide individual short-term crisis counseling and psychological first aid to students experiencing acute emotional or psychological distress.
    • Conduct risk assessments and safety planning for students
      exhibiting suicidal ideation or behaviors.
    • Maintain regular availability for emergency walk-in or on-call crisis support.
  • Case Management and Hospital Coordination
    • Provide comprehensive case management services including
      follow-up care and coordination for students returning to campus
      post-hospitalization.
    • Liaise with local hospitals emergency departments mental health agencies to ensure continuity of care.
    • Facilitate and coordinate with academic support and campus
      housing representatives as needed.
    • The position will support coordinating and enhancing mental health case management services building and maintaining a comprehensive referral network and supporting the
      availability of community and campus resources for students. This role is focused on providing direct case management support to students requiring collaboration with both community and campus partners to ensure effective seamless care for students.

30% of Time Crisis Counselor/Case Manager will perform:

  • Suicide Prevention and Outreach
    • Serve as the point person for campus-wide suicide prevention
      efforts.
    • Participate and lead campus development and implementation of prevention strategies awareness campaigns and training
      programs
    • Collaborate with university departments and student organizations to promote mental wellness and early intervention.
  • Consultation and Collaboration
    • Participate in behavioral intervention and threat assessment teams offering clinical judgement and recommendations.
    • Maintain documentation and case records in compliance with
      professional legal and ethical standards.
  • Administrative and Professional Development
    • Contribute to the development of policies and protocols related to mental health crisis response.
    • Attend staff meetings trainings and professional development
      workshops.
    • Remain current with best practices and trends in college mental health crisis intervention and suicide prevention.

5% of Time Crisis Counselor/Case Manager will:

  • Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
  • Knowledge awareness skills and experience related to providing individual multi person and group counseling; multicultural competence/humility empathy advance listening skills problem solving wide repertoire of intervention strategies knowledge of ethical principles mastery of intrapersonal and interpersonal dynamics; excellent assessment skills diagnosis skills thorough understanding of abnormal behavior/psychopathology experience/ knowledge working on a highly integrated clinical team.
  • Knowledge awareness skills and experience in clinical supervision professional training in the field of counseling and/or social work leadership modeling ethical guidelines state statutes professional development and training models.
  • Competency in a wide variety of mental health topical areas enthusiasm for teaching/presenting.
  • Excellent interpersonal written and verbal communication skills; shifting between clinical and non-clinical duties to meet organizational needs; working with and relating to a student body from various background faculty and staff; work effectively with different levels of staff within the organization; work independently and as part of a team in a proactive flexible solution-focused way.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
MinimumQualifications:
  • Masters degree in Social Work Counseling Clinical Psychology or related mental health field required.
  • LMSW LPC in the state of Idaho
  • Minimum of 1 to 3 years post-graduate experience in a mental health setting preferably in higher education or with adolescent/young adult populations.
  • Strong clinical assessment and crisis intervention skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in a college or university counseling center.
  • Knowledge of campus-based mental health services student development theory and FERPA/HIPAA regulations.
  • Training in trauma-informed care harm reduction or culturally competent counseling practices.
  • Demonstrated experience in suicide prevention programming and hospital coordination.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary range is $69992.00 to $72072.00 annually and is commensurate with State University provides a best-in-classbenefits package including (but not limited to):
