Job Description

DEFINITION OF POSITION: Directly responsible for the quality instruction of 9th 12th grade English

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: High School Principal

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess or be eligible for a Washington State Teaching certificate with an endorsement in English
  • Successful teaching substituting or student teaching experience in English

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree in a relevant content area
  • Experience teaching at the secondary level
  • Experience with grades 9-12 curriculum as an instructor
  • Experience with advanced placement curriculum
  • Evidence of participation in building and school committees and/or activities

ESSENTIAL JOB-RELATED ACTIVITIES:

  • Fulfill all teaching assignments including grades 9 through 12 English
  • Plan and develop quality instructional experiences regularly followed by appropriate assessment and feedback for students and parents
  • Select and/or create instructional lessons to appropriately support adopted materials
  • Organize individual small and large group learning activities as is appropriate to the students subject matter and outcomes desired
  • Differentiate instruction for a wide variety of student learning
  • Possess and practice strong instructional skills to assist struggling students
  • Maintain accurate records of student information and assessment data with the ability to access the information as needed or requested
  • Create a warm and inviting learning environment for students
  • Organize the physical setting to contribute to and model an environment conducive to learning
  • Understand the unique and varied needs of high school students
  • Manage student behaviors and classroom climate to foster a positive and safe environment both physically and emotionally
  • Recognize conditions that may lead to disciplinary concerns
  • Communicate effectively using district supported print and electronic media and related applications
  • Participate in required building and district activities with willingness to serve on district committees
  • Desire to lead direct or coach a co-curricular club or team
  • Possess and practice strong interpersonal skills with a wide variety of people both inside and outside the organization (staff parents community members other agencies etc.)
  • Be a positive team builder who works in a collaborative manner
  • Meet multiple demands in pressure situations and maintain high levels of quality work
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Communicate clearly both orally and in writing
  • Regularly demonstrate professionalism in appearance actions decisions and overall performance
  • Work with minimal supervision and be flexible

TERMS OF CONTRACT:

  • Salary: $55318 - $104265 per year placement based on experience and level of education
  • Length of Contract: 0 FTE 180 days base contract plus professional development days
  • Leaves/Benefits: Medical dental vision life and long-term disability coverage is provided through SEBB (School Employee Benefits Board) for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year. Retirement benefits are provided through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Additional benefits may include sick/emergency leave and personal leave as per the collective bargaining agreement between the PullmanEducation Association (PEA) and the Pullman School District (PEA Bargaining Agreement).
