Secondment - 2025/2026 School Year

POSITION: ESL Learning Partner

FTE: 1.0

LOCATION : Cornwall Elementary and Intermediate (7/8) Family of Schools


Summary:

Under the direction of the Principal of Teaching for Learning the ESL Learning Partner (K-8) will facilitate professional learning with school staff in building their capacity to work with and program for ESL.

Responsibilities:

  • To assist with facilitating and coordinating supports for students who are English Language Learners.
  • To support educators in building their capacity to assess language proficiency and effectively support students in attaining proficiency in English for English Language Learners.
  • To support educators in building their capacity to program for their ESL students ( content knowledge language assessments assessment and evaluation strategies etc.) to support these students in meeting curriculum expectations.
  • To facilitate the implementation of culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy to build educator inter-cultural awareness through equitable and inclusive education practices.
  • To support school Student Achievement Plan goals through the lens of supporting English Language Learners.
  • To implement and support Ministry of Education and system-wide initiatives.
  • To work with other Learning Partners to co-plan facilitate and support learning for principals teachers and students.
  • To co-plan and co-teach with educators in implementing effective ESL classroom practices that directly impact student learning and engagement (differentiated instruction universal design for learning assessment and evaluation skills and competency development real-life experiential learning opportunities etc.)
  • Duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Demonstrates strong knowledge and skill in working with students with a wide range of exceptionalities.
  • Demonstrates broad knowledge of effective pedagogy and classroom practices that directly impact student learning and engagement (differentiated instruction universal design for learning assessment and evaluation etc.) for English Language Learners (ELLs).
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the STEP assessment and how it informs ESL programming.
  • Familiar with a wide range of assessment tools communication strategies and tiered intervention strategies and requirements.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of culturally responsive pedagogy and how it supports ESL programming.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill in working with students at risk.
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge and skill in the use of technology including assistive technology.
  • Demonstrates a growth mindset.
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the Ontario curriculum.
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational presentation and time management skills.
  • Demonstrates exemplary interpersonal facilitation and team building skills.
  • Demonstrates strong initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrates experience in effectively integrating technology into teaching practice.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with a wide range of assessment tools communication strategies and safety strategies and requirements.
  • Follows the Standards of Practice and Ethical Standards of Practice for the Teaching Profession.
  • Understands professional development and its impact on student learning.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of equitable and inclusive education practices and has an understanding of culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy.
  • Effectively communicates and works collaboratively with all education stakeholders.
  • Effectively uses time management and organizational skills to meet all of the requirements of the position.

Qualifications:

  • An Ontario Teachers Certificate of Qualification
  • English as a Second Language Part 1 required
  • Special Education; Part 1 is an asset
  • Teaching Qualifications in three divisions is an asset
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience preferred
  • Member of the Ontario College of Teachers in good standing

Conditions:

  • Salary Grid plus travel allowance
  • Term - one school year 2025/2026 (at the end of the term returns to home school where applicable)
  • Travel to various locations may be required
