Job Title: Pre-School Coordinator

SUMMARY

Reports to the appropriate Special Education Facilitator; serves as liaison between the Special Education Department and the special education teachers; assists teachers by helping to design a program to meet the individual needs of students; plans and conducts need-based training for teachers aides and parents; develop and coordinate interagency agreements and transitional activities for children moving into and out of the NCP programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Develops performance objectives and prepares a professional growth plan supporting department and school system goals.

Assists teachers in meeting diverse needs and varied abilities of students through systematic planning.

Provides in-service training for teachers and parents in the form of workshops.

Provides in-service training for new non-tenured teachers.

Keeps a log and manages a system of priorities for accomplishing administrative and curricular tasks.

Participates in the development and coordination of interagency agreements as necessary.

Coordinates art festival for pre-school children.

Develops and manages pre-school budget.

Consults with Instructional Specialist and principals regarding instructional material and equipment.

  • Assists teachers in locating and selecting appropriate teaching materials with classroom organization in writing prescriptive programs for individual students and in areas of weakness when requested.
  • Makes progress toward achieving objectives in the professional growth plan.
  • Prepares a self-evaluation as described in the Performance Evaluation Plan.
  • Participates in the planning and coordination of the use of available resources of the school system and the community to enrich the educational program.
  • Participates in the conducting of periodic conferences with individuals and small groups of teachers and parents.
  • Interprets evaluations and serves as a consultant in student placement.
  • Serves as a resource person to regular school faculty concerning special education.
  • Writes innovative programs to enhance and expand the scope of special education services and curricula.
  • Makes recommendations where needed concerning curriculum implementation.
  • Requests materials and data to fulfill responsibilities.
  • Orders teaching materials for parent training and instructional program.
  • Establishes and administers a parent/teacher professional library of methods materials and publications.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Holds a Masters Degree from an accredited institution holds Louisiana Certification in non-categorical preschool and has a minimum of five years experience. Should satisfy Louisiana requirements for a teaching certificate with authorization for Parish/City School Supervision of Instruction or Educational Leader 1 or 2.

  • Ability to work tactfully and harmoniously with staff schools agencies parents and/or the public.
  • Physical stamina and emotional stability to work effectively under pressure and to keep all aspects of the job under control.

  • Ability to hold records reports and conversations in confidence.
  • Ability and initiative to plan organize and carry out assignments under minimum supervision.
  • Neat well groomed appearance.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
