Job Description

The Head of Marketing is involved in just about every aspect of our business.  This involvement spans beyond just commercial marketing to include finance market research clinical training market analytics and competitive intelligence regulatory reimbursement medical R&D and clinical trials product launches advertising and promotion and post-market analysis.

The Head of Marketing Glaucoma & Anterior Segment Eye Care will have full strategic and tactical Marketing accountability of products across core promotional channels. As a member of the Leadership Team primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Direct initiate and oversee the development of effective marketing strategies that are executable easily communicated and clinically supported for 7 different in market Eye Care brands across:
    • 3 different therapeutic areas (Glaucoma Presbyopia & Legacy Rx Dry Eye)
    • 4 different distribution/sales channels: Pharmaceutical Buy & Bill Surgical and Cash Pay
    • 3 product lifecycles and strategies: Launch Growth and Mature/LOE
  • Lead and direct the strategy and efforts of our Clinical training team in support of our surgical and procedure based products.
  • Be the leadership point of contact for current and future lifecycle management opportunities for the Glaucoma Disease state.
  • Build current and future competitive advantage by understanding & addressing key customers needs and by demonstrating deep understanding of competitors strategies.
  • Oversee the LRP Plan and LBE forecasting for 7 brands
  • Loss of Exclusivity (LOE) brand oversight requires management of cross-functional stakeholders on the Established brands team legal partners finance and manufacturing
  • Ensure timely guidance to senior management regarding the strategy and key brands; lead the long-range plan process portfolio planning annual financial plan and quarterly financial reviews
  • Develop internal and external customer relationships that successfully drive business objectives.
  • Broaden AbbVies network and presence by building scientific academic KOL payer and patient advocacy relationships.
  • Effectively champion and communicate the brand vision and strategies to all related stakeholders gaining support for initiatives along the way.
  • Establish a productive work environment by creating trust and respect within the franchise.
  • Create and optimize the organizational structure to meet market/customer needs.
  • Partner with cross-functional groups (Legal Regulatory Medical Project Management Sales Training Sales Training Consumer Marketing Market Analytics and Business Insights Finance HR OEC etc.) to ensure integration and consistency of professional business strategies and regulatory compliance of promotional materials.
  • Create opportunities to fully develop the marketing teams.  Build and develop an organization reflecting a diverse workforce.
  • Balance business priorities and resources adapting to the external and internal environment.
  • Position requires excellent communication skills and strong analytical skills to understand scientific and financial data recognize key issues establish priorities and prepare high-level presentations for senior executive staff review.
  • Supervisory/Management Responsibilities Will lead both People Leaders and Individual Contributors

Qualifications :

Key Qualifications and Experiences:

  • 15 years experience in the pharmaceutical and/or medical device industry in progressive commercial leadership roles with a strong foundation in marketing ideally including several different lifecycle experiences (introduction/launch growth/expansion mature/sunset) sales market access and/or general management.
  • Bachelors degree required MBA or other advance degree in social science life sciences or related area is desired.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and manage a complex set of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong executive presence and leadership skills are imperative as this leader will serve as a key role model in the organization helping to support a strong and growing business for AbbVie.
  • Demonstrated and consistent experience in successfully leading organizational change.
  • Outstanding partnering skills and the ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team and drive commercial decisions in a highly-matrixed organization to accomplish business goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and lead teams and have the managerial courage to make and stand by difficult decisions.
  • Capable of attracting and developing world-class commercial talent.
  • Strong communication and negotiating skills required.

Location/Travel:

  • Irvine CA
  • Ranges between 25% - 50%

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

  • This job is eligible to participate in our short-term incentive programs.
