Who we are:
EOI Space is developing and deploying a network of satellites in Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) to provide ultra-high-resolution Earth imagery. We aim to deliver timely and actionable data for commercial and defense applications.
We are on our way to achieving many industry firsts. This demands an ambitious team that revels in leaning into challenges getting hands on and working together. Does this sound like you EOI Space is looking for a Sr Spacecraft Thermal Engineer to lead the thermal design analysis and testing of our spacecraft and associated subsystems. This is a high-impact hands-on role focused in developing and analyzing the thermal design for satellites bound for VLEO. developing and delivering flight hardware fast reliably and cost-effectively. You will be involved in development across all spacecraft lifecycle phases from early development through assembly test and launch.
What you will do:
You will be responsible for spacecraft thermal design and ensuring the required thermal environments are maintained through all phases of operations on orbit. This work includes developing thermal models performing analysis and executing thermal and thermal-vacuum testing. Youll work within a team of mechanical engineers and collaborate with other engineering disciplines to ensure that designs meet system-level needs and that technical milestones are met. This is a hands-on role in a lean and collaborative environment. Your expertise will contribute to the success of our mission to deliver high-quality Earth imagery that benefits society.
Responsibilities:
Own the end-to-end thermal design and analysis of satellites including component- and system-level modeling
Develop and maintain detailed thermal models using tools such as Thermal Desktop
Perform steady-state and transient thermal analyses for orbit scenarios including eclipses seasonal variation and worst-case power profiles
Define and implement thermal control strategies using passive (e.g. coatings insulation radiators) and active (e.g. heaters) techniques
Collaborate with mechanical and systems engineers to integrate thermal considerations into structural and layout decisions
Work with avionics and payload teams to define thermal requirements and ensure component survival and performance
Support TVAC testing sensor placement and thermal correlation to flight models
Contribute to thermal hardware selection and material trades including MLI adhesives and thermal interface materials
Participate in design reviews risk assessments and mission planning from a thermal perspective
Support anomaly resolution and post-launch performance evaluation for on-orbit thermal behavior
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent)
7 years of experience in spacecraft thermal engineering including multiple satellite development lifecycles
Deep understanding of orbital thermal environments and the unique challenges of LEO missions
Proficient in thermal modelling tools such as Thermal Desktop or similar
Experience in developing and correlating thermal models based on test data
Familiarity with satellite integration and environmental testing
Excellent problem-solving communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Ability to operate in a fast-paced startup environment balancing hands-on work with strategic planning
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $150000-$190000 per year depending on previous experience. Pay ranges are determined by role level location and alignment with market data. Individual pay will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: interviews and an assessment of several factors that are unique to each candidate job-related skills relevant education and experience certifications abilities of the candidate and internal equity.
Work Location:
This role can be in either Louisville CO or in Seattle WA. Satellite integration for the initial vehicles is happening in EOIs Colorado facility with a planned transition to Seattle. For candidates that are in Seattle regular travel is required to be on-site at the Louisville CO facility.
Required Experience:
