Maintenance I

Full-time; 2ndshift; weekend/holiday rotation

The Maintenance I position is responsible for performing scheduled preventive maintenance on equipment throughout the hospital. Responsible for general mechanical electrical and plumbing task inspections monitoring activities servicing making repairs and overhaul of equipment and facilities. Plan organize and complete complex projects. Serves as a subject matter expert with little to no supervision in areas such as electrical plumbing HVAC carpentry etc. Works closely with Department Management to assist with daily planning of lower-level projects.

Responsibilities

  • Repair pipes fittings and plumbing fixtures to maintain the heating water gas and drainage systems throughout the hospital as assigned.
  • Responds to fire alarms with all-purpose fire extinguishers; responds to disaster alerts and drills; maintains internal security and continuation of utilities during these emergencies.
  • Assist other trade personnel as needed in handling materials on major repair or installation projects.
  • Consults with supervisor concerning assignments and keeps supervisor informed of activities needs and problems.
  • Assembles moves installs and repairs equipment furniture and fixtures used throughout the hospital; responds to problems that arise.
  • Ensures adequate levels of supplies materials equipment; orders/requisitions tools and materials as needed for assigned work; advises supervisor when reordering necessary.
  • Operates and maintains boilers. Observes various meters and gauges and takes appropriate action for safe operation. Follows preventative maintenance schedule.
  • Keeps log on each boiler and chillers. Reports major repairs needs and unsafe conditions to manager.
  • Plans organizes and completes complex projects in the areas of electrical plumbing heating air conditioning carpentry etc. and acts as of the subject matter expert for other staff in these areas.
  • Performs periodic inspection of mechanical rooms throughout the hospital to insure proper operation of heat air conditioning and ventilation and medical support equipment (e.g. vacuum pumps air compressors). Monitors equipment gauges and meter; inspect equipment steam pipes and machinery to ascertain leakage faulty operation irregularities malfunctions and leaking water; makes and records repairs or adjustments.
  • Services and operates hospital-owned vehicles and maintenance equipment; makes all repairs with capability for which equipment is available.
  • Daily record keeping input into work order system to monitor work orders and completion of daily assignments.



Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Valid Iowa drivers license for at least three years with an acceptable or clear rating according to the Motor Vehicle Record chart. (see below).
    • Must have a minimum of two years driving experience with no record of DUI DWI or similar alcohol or drug related offenses over the past five years.
    • No record of reckless driving careless driving speeding over 15 miles above the speed limit fleeing or eluding a police officer chemical test refusal leaving the scene of an accident driving after revocation or suspension or passing a stopped school bus in the last five years.
  • Able to operate manual and automatic transmission vehicles.
  • Basic computer Knowledge using word processing spreadsheet email and web browser.
  • Use of basic hand tools and power equipment.
  • One to two related training and experience with familiarity of tools and materials needed for individual job preferred
