Job Description
Job Summary:
We are looking for a Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst to support a major data modernization initiative focused on transitioning from legacy systems to modern Data Management and Geospatial Platforms. The role involves analyzing complex environmental transportation and business licensing data to deliver actionable insights through dashboards reports and KPIs. Key tasks include data integration preparation trend analysis compliance reporting and visualization. The BI Analyst will work closely with stakeholders to understand business needs and communicate insights that drive strategic decisions. Primary support will be for the Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS) with potential involvement in broader data initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop complex dashboards scorecards and visual analytics using Power BI
- Design develop and maintain data models and visualizations using Microsoft Power BI and Azure-based data platforms
- Create optimized reusable data models using DAX and Power Query M for enterprise-wide reporting
- Build interactive dashboards and reports tailored to business needs using Microsoft Power BI
- Integrate Power BI with various Microsoft Azure data sources and on-premises databases
- Work closely with Business users data architects and data engineers to manage data pipelines staging areas and semantic models.
- Work with business units to gather reporting requirements and KPIs.
- Translate ambiguous business questions into concrete BI solutions.
- Present insights and findings in clear executive-friendly formats.
- Provide end-user training and support to ensure adoption of BI tools
- Maintain and publish datasets and dashboards in Power BI Service with scheduled refreshes and alerts
- Optimize dashboards and reports for performance
- Implement security and user access controls within PowerBI
- Implement incremental data refresh row-level security (RLS) and performance tuning strategies in Power BI.
- Conduct deep-dive analytics to uncover trends anomalies and business opportunities.
- Ensure data accuracy consistency and security compliance across all reporting assets

Requirements:
- Post-Secondary degree diploma or certificate in Computer Science or related field of study.
- Direct hands-on experience translating business requirements into analytical solutions and communicate findings effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders to deliver end to end BI solutions
- Direct hands-on experience designing developing and optimizing advanced Power BI solutions that transform regulated and complex datasets into actionable insights for policy operations and executive reporting
- Direct hands-on experience with a comprehensive set of visualization techniques and features that demonstrate both technical depth and storytelling skill using Power Bi.
- Direct hands-on experience with Azure Databricks leveraging Medallion Architecture and Unity catalog for data governance and secure access management
- Direct hands-on experience in analyzing large complex datasets to perform trend analysis predictive analytics and forecasting using Power BI and Azure analytics tools
- Direct hands-on experience in SQL for data transformations querying and analytical processing in large scale environments
- Direct experience building data products in Public cloud environment
- Experience developing complex measures calculated columns advanced time intelligence using DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) in Power Bi
- Experience implementing Power BI Service features such as data refresh workspaces and row-level security (RLS)
- Experience in presenting and storytelling to effectively communicate data-driven insights to executives and business users within a public organization.
- Experience working with Public datasets particularly Environmental Data (Water Licensing Ambient Water monitoring) Transportation (Heavy permit loads) and Consumer licensing
- Proven experience in building and delivering data products using Synapse Analytics including development of curated dataset and Power Bi integration
