As a Solution Architect you will translate complex business objectives into robust scalable and secure digital solutions. Serving as the bridge between executive stakeholders and delivery teams you ensure technical direction aligns with commercial strategy regulatory obligations and modern payments-industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Architectural Design: lead the design of comprehensive solution architectures that span cloud on-premises and hybrid environments. Your approach will embed security-by-design principles and prioritize cost-effective strategies across all platforms.
- Payments Solutioning: responsible for designing and governing end-to-end payment flows including authorisation clearing settlement and tokenisation. This includes developing and maintaining payment orchestration layers that support card schemes real-time payment rails like NPP and alternative payment methods. Ensuring compliance with standards such as PCI DSS ISO 8583 ISO 20022 and AS 2805 field mappings will be a key part of your role.
- Technical Leadership: guide multidisciplinary teams by defining and promoting engineering best practices. A strong emphasis will be placed on enforcing DevSecOps principles throughout delivery pipelines and operational environments.
- Workshop Facilitation: run discovery and design workshops to elicit requirements articulate trade-offs and drive consensus among business and product teams.
- Assessment & Governance: create architectural artefacts such as C4 models service blueprints and data-flow diagrams. Additionally you will lead design reviews risk assessments and compliance audits with a focus on Australian and global payment regulations.
- Digital Transformation: contribute to the development and execution of technology roadmaps aimed at modernising legacy systems and enabling innovative business models across banking payments and insurance sectors.
- Mentoring & Community: coach engineers and other architects; foster an inclusive continuous-learning culture across teams.
Qualifications :
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- 8 years of hands-on software engineering and 3 years leading architecture for large-scale solutions.
- Proficient in relevant programming languages frameworks and tools such as Java IntelliJ IDEA Spring Hibernate Maven Gradle. Nice to have: Kotlin.
- Practical experience in platform-specific database systems (Preferable: Oracle) and SQL.
- Demonstrated success delivering solutions on cloud and integrating with on-premises environments.
- Deep knowledge of payments principlesauthorisation clearing settlement chargebacks fraud AML/KYCand familiarity with AU schemes (NPP BECS) ISO 8583/ISO 20022 and PCI DSS.
- Experience architecting solutions for banking payments or insurance clients across Australian and international markets.
- Experience with payment-orchestration platforms/gateways and scheme-routing optimisation.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills capable of simplifying complexity for non-technical audiences.
- Experience with reviews risk assessments threat modelling and compliance audits.
Preferred Attributes
- Certifications such as CPP (Certified Payments Professional) AAP (Accredited ACH Professional) and/or AWS/Azure Solutions Architect.
- Experience with cloud-native platforms ideally Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF).
- Experience with Agile methodologies DevOps practices Infrastructure-as-Code and automated testing frameworks.
- Record of influencing technology strategy and ROI at senior business stakeholder; TOGAF or SAFe certification desirable.
- Fluency in data-privacy and industry-specific compliance frameworks (e.g. ISO 27001 SOC 2).
