Billing supervisor

Salary Range: $20.00 26.91 with a 10% differential.

Department: Billing Office

Location: Fresno Billing Office (In-Person)

Reports to: Billing Office Manager

Position Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and resourceful Billing Office Supervisor to oversee activities related to daily billing research follow-up document processing appeals and customer inquiries. This also includes leading coaching and supervising employees.

Essential Job Functions

Claim Supervision

  • Acquire and maintain familiarity with Iris Billing Iris Batch and any external software used for billing or batch software.
  • Acquire and maintain familiarity with tools used for insurance verification and claim support including Hospital Access Insurance eligibility check (automated and manual). Enable and disable accounts to external sources as needed.
  • Oversee workflow of billing process ensuring claims are verified accurately audited appropriately and billed correctly.
  • Oversee workflow of insurance follow up ensuring claims are appealed timely and correctly or reassigned to appropriate pay source.
  • Oversee workflow of document responses from insurances ensuring documents are reviewed and responded to timely and accurately.
  • Provide claim support including Hospital Access Insurance eligibility check (automated and manual).
  • Monitor Insurance eligibility process ensuring staff have resources to verify and bill accurately.
  • Provide testing training and documentation of Iris Billing and external software to ensure end-user understanding of software function and features.
  • Communicate with staff information to support appropriate use of Iris Billing and external software as necessary.
  • Communicate with public (customers and patients) about questions related to services and billing.
  • Work with department to bill claims on ECS over paper.
  • Investigate end-user reports of issues with Iris Billing Insurance Research (external resources) and route issues to appropriate resource for software improvement or training.

Employee Supervision

  • Communicate work expectations and provide employee feedback by leading coaching and being an example.
  • Oversee employee training development and productivity.
  • Analyze workflow and output.
  • Validate schedules breaks and meal periods.
  • Participate in training new employees.
  • Develop training classes Standard Operating Procedures and best practices for documentation.

Liaison

  • Develop understanding of internal medical necessity audit for emergency and scheduled claims as well as understanding of internal diagnosis assignment process.
  • Be able to guide staff on questions related to medical necessity and condition codes.
  • Work with departments to identify issues with condition codes claim documentation or other concerns related to billing a claim to the appropriate contract or insurance.

Insurance Specialist

  • Develop working knowledge of insurance regulations and rules including condition codes medical necessity and reasonableness definitions
  • Develop working knowledge of contracts and filing requirements.
  • Maintain familiarity with insurance compliance (emergency and scheduled).
  • Maintain familiarity with contract compliance for all contracts.
  • Work with Compliance Director to investigate and resolve insurance Medicare or contract complaints.

Claim Audit Specialist

  • Oversee auditor process (review for medical necessity add diagnosis to claims).
  • Have an understanding of internal Medicare medical necessity audit for emergency and scheduled claims.
  • Have an understanding of internal diagnosis assignment process by auditor
  • Be able to guide an auditor on questions related to medical necessity and diagnosis

Secondary Job Function

  • Arrive to all work assignments on time in appropriate attire.
  • Maintain regular attendance.
  • Participate in investigations as appropriate.
  • Accurately completes all paperwork and computerized records.
  • Promote good morale by exhibiting exemplary conduct a positive attitude and support for all personnel and American Ambulance.
  • Notify other department supervisors of potentially inappropriate activities exhibited by other employees.
  • Assure all safety rules and guidelines are followed.
  • Attend all meetings as required.
  • Responsible for proper use of all facilities and equipment used or issued.
  • Responsible to return all issued equipment in working condition at the end of employment or when requested.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree
  • Three years experience in health care reimbursement
  • Alternatively 5 years supervisory experience.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent communication organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Financial Authority

  • May requisition equipment/supplies related to the performance of job duties through the Department Director.
  • May purchase or authorize the purchase of inventoried items.
  • May not authorize equipment maintenance/repairs.
  • May not contract or make financial commitments on behalf of the Company.

Communication Authority

  • May not release employee-related information.
  • May not release Protected Health Information except for billing operations Directors or Managers or others with permission of the CAO.
  • May not release Company-related information.
  • May not use Company letterhead.
  • May not communicate to the media

Key Performance Measurements

  • Periodic evaluation by the Manager of Billing
  • Production: number of tickets scheduled per day by division
  • Production: average day imported to scheduled by division
  • Production: average day last action to next action by division
  • Financial: number of days in Accounts Receivable for pay source by division
  • Timeliness: number of days from first billed to closed for pay source division

This job operates in an office environment. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers phones copiers and fax machines.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are expected to be normal business hours. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

There may be occasional travel for conferences seminars and training.
