Job Description
FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU) a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia invites applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Mathematics.
Fort Valley State University the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2800 students including graduate students. JOB SUMMARY:
The Assistant/Associate Professor of Mathematics is a full-time tenure track position in the Mathematics Program in the Department of Natural and Computational Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Teach undergraduate level Mathematics and related courses in a face-to-face online or hybrid format.
- Teach courses as assigned by the department chair per term and maintain office hours (a minimum of 10 hours per week).
- Advise students; actively participate in recruitment of students.
- Exhibit the potential to carry out research of good quality and strengthen the program.
- Participate in the solicitation of external funding.
- Participate in the continuous assessment of student learning outcomes.
- Review and plan curricula.
- Serve on departmental college and university level committees.
- Participate in community service and outreach programs on behalf of the institution.
- Provide services to the university and professional organizations.
- Assist students in acquiring Internship and job placement.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph. D. in Mathematics.
- Coursework or inclination in research and teaching differential equations numerical analysis abstract algebra probability statistics and data science.
- Preference will be given to candidates who have graduate-level coursework in statistics data science or related areas.
- 2-3 years of experience teaching at the university level.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Excellent analytical oral written communication skills and teamwork.
- Demonstrated success in research and scholarly activities.
- Demonstrated ability to work with traditional and non-traditional students.
