Job Description

FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU) a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia invites applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor of Mathematics.

Fort Valley State University the only 1890 land-grant university in Georgia is a comprehensive institution that provides an education to over 2800 students including graduate students. The university is located in the town of Fort Valley in Peach County the original site of the states peach industry. Its 1365-acre (5.52 km2) campus is Georgias second-largest public university in area.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant/Associate Professor of Mathematics is a full-time tenure track position in the Mathematics Program in the Department of Natural and Computational Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teach undergraduate level Mathematics and related courses in a face-to-face online or hybrid format.
  • Teach courses as assigned by the department chair per term and maintain office hours (a minimum of 10 hours per week).
  • Advise students; actively participate in recruitment of students.
  • Exhibit the potential to carry out research of good quality and strengthen the program.
  • Participate in the solicitation of external funding.
  • Participate in the continuous assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Review and plan curricula.
  • Serve on departmental college and university level committees.
  • Participate in community service and outreach programs on behalf of the institution.
  • Provide services to the university and professional organizations.
  • Assist students in acquiring Internship and job placement.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph. D. in Mathematics.
  • Coursework or inclination in research and teaching differential equations numerical analysis abstract algebra probability statistics and data science.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have graduate-level coursework in statistics data science or related areas.
  • 2-3 years of experience teaching at the university level.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent analytical oral written communication skills and teamwork.
  • Demonstrated success in research and scholarly activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with traditional and non-traditional students.
