Description

Summary: Under the supervision of the designated Area Director the agencys Food Service Manager is responsible for food inventory grocery shopping meal preparation and supervision of kitchen staff for their assigned residential facility. The Food Service Manager for Mirror shall operate in accordance with the policies set forth by the Mirror Board of Directors as implemented by his/her supervisors and all parties involved shall abide by all applicable laws and regulations. The Food Service Manager should help ensure agency compliance with Social and Rehabilitation Services Division of Health Care Policy Mental Health and Addiction and Prevention Services Licensure Standards Kansas Department of Corrections contract agreements Kansas Department of Health and Environment Bureau of Environment Health Services Food Service Establishment Regulations and any other local ordinances related to food preparation dietary standards and facility conditions specific to Mirror food service.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintain client and program confidentiality as required by federal law.
  2. Supervise those clients assigned to assist you and your staff with meal preparation tasks.
  3. Responsible to ensure the safety of the clients and staff by keeping your designated sites kitchen free from potential hazards. Become aware of and work to meet all fire and health safety codes.
  4. Maintain documentation of inspections on the Fire Suppression System (if applicable). State law requires the suppression systems be inspected by an authorized inspector (i.e. Cintas E-Kan) and that the old links be retained on site for Fire Inspectors to see on their annual visits. Monitor the inspections on the Fire extinguishers in the kitchen and dining buildings (annual check by Cintas) and conduct a monthly sight check and documentation thereof of each fire extinguisher in the kitchen and dining buildings. Documentation of this should be kept on the tag provided on each fire extinguisher.
  5. Ensure that the institutional style meal preparation for all residents at your designated site or sites is delivered on time daily. This is done through supervision of kitchen staff.
  6. Interviewing hiring and supervision of kitchen staff.
  7. Ensure menu schedules as approved by the agencys licensed dietician are followed.
  8. Maintain yearly menus for annual inspection.
  9. Inventory control of food on a weekly basis.
  10. Ensure cleanliness of kitchen and dining facilities at your designated site or sites.
  11. Guarantee compliance with any dietary needs for clients as determined by medical personnel.
  12. Make sure adequate staffing of kitchens is maintained during any staff absence.
  13. Consultation with other program staff.
  14. Perform other duties as directed by the Area Director or their designee.

Qualifications

  1. High school diploma or General Educational Development certificate.
  2. Vocational/Technical courses and/or work-related experience in institutional meal preparation is required.
  3. Experience in supervising and interacting with persons addicted to drugs or the offender population would be desirable.
  4. Minimum of 2 years supervisor experience.
  5. Experience in the safe operation of commercial sized kitchen equipment is required.
  6. Excellent interpersonal skills required as well as ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  7. Ability to organize and prioritize and follow through with multiple tasks related to the preparation of meals for 50 clients.
  8. Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise the work of others.
  9. Awareness of the disease of addiction.
  10. Must be able to pass agency required background or security check.
  11. Employees who have been diagnosed with any type of substance use disorder or behavioral health addiction/compulsion must have sustained a minimum of two consecutive years of abstinence from all intoxicating substances and symptoms of their chemical and/or behavioral addiction; and must be in full sustained remission.
  12. Must be proficient in computer literate.
  13. Job functions in this position may involve walking climbing stairs bending and lifting up to 30 or 40 pounds.
