Job Description:

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Principal Telecoms Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Brisbane Australia.

About the Position:

You will be responsible for the design integration and implementation of communications infrastructure projects encompassing IP/MPLS transport networks radio sites voice and data communication systems fibre optic and copper-based transmission systems and associated ancillary subsystems.

As a key member of the Communications Engineering team you will lead the end-to-end engineering lifecycle of mission-critical communications networks with a strong focus on the design configuration and integration of secure and highly available IP network solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop high-level and low-level design documentation including architecture diagrams network design reports and integration procedures.

  • Configure integrate and test network equipment across multi-vendor platforms primarilyCisco and Juniper routing and switching infrastructure. (Primarily Cisco ASR Cisco Nexus Juniper SRX Fortinet firewalls.)

  • Perform site and factory acceptance testing including pre-commissioning commissioning and network Migration activities.

  • Lead fault isolation network diagnostics and root cause analysis across transport and access layers.

  • Ensure network designs comply with safety security and redundancy requirements especially in rail and mission-critical environments.

  • Mentor and support junior engineers contributing to skills development and knowledge transfer across the engineering team.

  • Produce technical documentation and implementation procedures in accordance with engineering standards and stakeholder requirements.

Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years experience as a Network Engineer with hands-on design configuration and integration experience in critical infrastructure environments.

  • Cisco CCNP and/or Juniper JNCIS/JNCIP certifications.

  • Bachelors degree in engineering (Electrical Telecommunications or related field) eligible for or holding full membership with Engineers Australia.

  • Extensive knowledge and hands-on implementation experience with Cisco MPLS BGP and OSPF technologies as well as Cisco Nexus platforms including vPC VDC and data center architecture design.

  • Proven experience designing and deploying highly available redundant network architectures for large-scale infrastructure projects.

  • Strong experience with traffic engineering (MPLS TE/FRR) QoS ACLs and secure VPN design.

  • Demonstrated experience authoring engineering documents such as detailed designs integration test plans and technical change implementation procedures.

  • Experience working within rail communications signalling networks or similar operational technology (OT) environments is highly desirable.

  • Strong project experience with the ability to manage competing priorities multitask effectively and meet tight deadlines in fast-paced delivery environments.
