Job Description

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design planning delivery and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words we keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers storage networking power and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain and were looking for talented people who want to help.

Youll join a diverse team of software hardware and network engineers supply chain specialists security experts operations managers and other vital roles. Youll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. The AWS Infrastructure New Regions Planning Team is searching for a Sr. Program Manager to lead global Data Center planning processes for new AWS regions. You will work across the entire AWS Organization to align on both short- and long-range demand plans for data center capacity and the infrastructure response through the acquisition of space and power. You will participate in the forecasting process which establishes capacity plans and work across AWS to manage strategic execution including supporting the acquisition of long lead infrastructure for new regions. You will conduct modeling and scenario analysis and make data-driven recommendations that inform capacity and capital expenditure decisions. You will partner with key stakeholders to bridge changes in demand address short- and long-term capacity constraints and write supporting documentation for capital expenditures. You will drive accountability across the Infrastructure organization and develop mechanisms to monitor and escalate against the health of the infrastructure business to executive leadership. Finally you will lead improvement initiatives to optimize infrastructure footprint required to support New Region launches.

Key job responsibilities
- Lead demand planning and drive strategic alignment across multiple stakeholders to develop infrastructure capacity plans for the acquisition of data center space and power
- Program manage activities required to plan and launch new data center infrastructure
- Dive deep into planning models to identify risks and opportunities work cross functionally to resolve inconsistencies
- Conduct scenario and root-cause analysis to make data-driven recommendations which inform data center capacity acquisition decisions
- Clearly define data requirements and metrics working with teams to implement the entire data flow from capture to presentation and management
- Identify opportunities to invent and simplify processes identify business risks and implement resolutions and scalable mechanisms
- Communicate ideas concisely to a wide variety of stakeholders for purposes ranging from informative to need for approvals from executives.
- Monitor analyze and drive alignment on modeling assumptions for new region demand planning

A day in the life
The New Region Planning team is responsible for planning data center capacity across inflight recently launched and regions under evaluation. The capacity plans we generate drive data center build schedules trigger acquisition of long-term real-estate power and colo contract investments and help make go/no-go decisions on AWS market entry in new geographies.

- 5 years of program or project management experience
- Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements
- Experience owning program strategy end to end delivery and communicating results to senior leadership
- Scenario modeling and demand/supply planning

- 5 years of driving process improvements experience
- Masters degree or MBA in business operations human resources adult education organizational development instructional design or related field

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $104100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge skills and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered equity sign-on payments and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package in addition to a full range of medical financial and/or other benefits.
