Design Engineer
An established engineering and manufacturing business based in Portsmouth is looking for a Design Engineer to join its expanding technical team. With a strong reputation in the aerospace and defence sectors the company delivers advanced engineering solutions and is committed to developing its employees skills and careers.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Design Engineer to work on projects from initial concept through to production contributing to the development of high-quality safety-critical products. Youll collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams ensuring designs are robust cost-effective and compliant with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop design concepts and create detailed manufacturing drawings.
- Produce technical documentation reports and presentations for internal and client reviews.
- Support testing activities including defining and witnessing qualification tests.
- Collaborate with engineers project teams and management to ensure designs meet requirements.
- Contribute to bids and proposals ensuring design work is delivered on time and within budget.
What Youll Need:
- Strong skills in 2D and 3D CAD modelling (SolidWorks essential).
- Good understanding of manufacturing processes and material properties including fatigue and load considerations.
- Ability to create and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Confident in producing technical reports and presenting to stakeholders.
- Experience with aerospace defence or other safety-critical industries is preferred; knowledge of airworthiness or electrical systems is a bonus.
Qualifications & Experience:
- HND Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering Physics Mathematics or a related discipline.
- Experience gained in safety-critical sectors such as aerospace defence transport marine or medical devices.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word Excel PowerPoint).
