Title: Engine Lathe Operator Manual Machining / Assembly 1st Shift La Verne Area (Confidential)
Pay: $20 $28/hr DOE OT
Shift: 1st shift; OT as needed.
Location: La Verne CA
Youll Do: Run manual engine lathe for simple operations prep and finish components verify with calipers & mics read blueprints and cross-train in assembly.
You Bring: Manual lathe experience; precision measurement; blueprint literacy; willingness to learn multiple areas.
Growing production volumes in our Assembly department mean we need an Engine Lathe Operator who can support short-run simple-turn operations that feed downstream assembly builds. Ideal for a hands-on machinist who likes variety and is open to cross-training in deburr light mill ops and mechanical assembly.
What Youll DoSet up and operate a manual engine lathe to face turn chamfer groove drill/ream and perform other basic machining ops on steel stainless aluminum or copper-alloy components.
Read & interpret blueprints shop travelers and work instructions.
Use precision measuring instruments (calipers micrometers depth gauges) to verify dimensions & document results.
Maintain tool offsets check part concentricity and adjust feeds/speeds for material & finish requirements.
Perform basic machine maintenance: clean chips check lubrication inspect chucks & tooling.
Assist with material prep & staging for assembly builds; label & route parts.
Cross-train in mechanical assembly deburring drilling/tapping and simple fixture builds when lathe demand is low.
Follow all safety PPE and LOTO/lock spindle procedures when servicing equipment.
Minimum:
Experience operating a manual engine lathe in job shop repair toolroom or production environment.
Able to hold basic production tolerances ( 0.005) and with guidance tighter fits ( 0.001).
Comfortable reading blueprints and shop prints; understands basic GD&T callouts (diameter depth concentricity).
Competent with calipers micrometers depth mic dial indicators.
Team player willing to cross-train in assembly or other machining areas.
Preferred / Nice to Have:
Experience turning shafts bushings spacers threaded features.
Familiarity with tool steels & heat-treated parts.
Forklift / overhead hoist use for loading bars or chucks.
Basic CNC exposure (can advance internally).
Standing most of shift; repetitive hand motions; handling oily metal parts.
Lift up to 40 lbs routinely; team lift above that.
Exposure to cutting fluids chips noise (hearing protection provided).
