Job purpose:
To promote excellent levels of pupil attendance and punctuality identifying and addressing issues that affect school attendance. The Attendance Officer will also provide pastoral support to pupils and families fostering a positive inclusive and supportive school environment.
This role will focus on pupil attendance working in close collaboration with our ELSA and SLT.

Key Responsibilities:
Attendance Monitoring & Management:
Monitor and analyse daily attendance and punctuality data identifying patterns and causes of absence.
Follow up unexplained absences promptly through phone calls texts and home visits where necessary.
Maintain accurate attendance records in line with school and local authority procedures.
Liaise with parents/carers to discuss attendance concerns and offer support strategies.
Work in partnership with the Locality Attendance Officer and attend attendance panel meetings when required.
Prepare and present attendance reports for senior leadership governors and external agencies.

Pastoral Support:
Build positive relationships with students and families to encourage regular school attendance.
Support students who face barriers to learning due to social emotional or behavioural needs.
Provide a safe and supportive space for students to discuss issues affecting their well-being or attendance.
Liaise with teaching staff SENDCo safeguarding leads and external agencies to ensure a coordinated approach to pupil support.
Contribute to safeguarding processes including attendance at Child Protection or Early Help meetings as required.

Administrative Duties:
Update and maintain the schools Management Information System (SIMS) accurately.
Produce letters and documentation for meetings with parents/carers and outside agencies.
Manage the process of issuing penalty notices or legal proceedings in line with legislation and school/LA policy.
Other duties related to the running of a busy school office e.g. administering medicines staffing the reception desk organising school trips/clubs production of newsletters and administering data.

Person Specification:
Essential:
Experience of working with children and families in an educational or community setting.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organisational and IT skills including the ability to use MIS (e.g. SIMS ParentPay).
Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
Ability to handle sensitive issues with confidentiality professionalism and empathy.

Desirable:
Knowledge of education attendance legislation and procedures.
Previous experience in a pastoral family liaison or attendance role within a school. Understanding of barriers to attendance and strategies to overcome them.

Scheduled hours of work are 36 per week the ability to be flexible is useful.
Current working hours are 8:15am to 4pm with a half hour unpaid lunch break.
