GENERAL JOB SUMMARY
The Primary Assistant Principal (PAP) collaboratively supports the Primary Years Programme (PYP) Principal and the IB PYP curriculum coordinator in the administration of a comprehensive PYP programme. Under the supervision of the PYP Principal the PAP provides instructional leadership coordination supervision of teaching staff paraprofessionals and assists in the school budget.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification:
- Bachelors Degree or higher from an accredited college or university Masters Degree in Educational Administration preferred
- Holds a current principal certification with the State of Texas or has comparable leadership experience in lieu of certification
Experience:
- Three (3) years of successful teaching or administrative experience at the primary school level desired
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to work cooperatively with others
- Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms
- Displays strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
- Must be legally able to work in the United States
- Complies with TEA regulations applicable federal state and local laws school policies and standards of the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructional Leadership
- Collaborates with the PYP Principal in administrating and coordinating the PYP within the policies established by the Westlake Academy Board of Trustees
- Maintains a positive vibrant and visible presence within the PYP classes
- Ability to communicate beliefs about an IB Education and that all students can be successful;
- Aware of the trends in curriculum development effective assessment and pedagogical strategies
- Has an overall knowledge of the development of the early years learner in regard to academic social and emotional learning
- Assists in the selection supervision and performance evaluation of professional and paraprofessional personnel
- Coordinates State testing for the PYP in liaison with the MYP Assistant Principal
- Serves on the Instructional Leadership Team for the Academy
- Serves on 504 committee and Special Education ARD meetings to ensure student needs are being met
- Co-Coordinates the Response to Intervention process with the PYP Coordinator

- Leads initiatives and the capacity of others to move the collective efficacy of the program and organization forward

- Resolves staff conflict in positive ways
Resource Manager
- Collaborates with the PYP Leadership team in the creation of program schedules
- Collaborates with the PYP Coordinator in acquisition of instructional resources and materials
- Is fiscally responsible and maximizes the impact of fiscal resources on instructional priorities
- Responsible for collaborating with the PYP Principal in the budget process
- Responsible for coordination of ESL program K-12 to include tracking teacher certifications and student placement compliance with federal guidelines initial assessments progress monitoring LPAC TELPAS and collaboration with ESL consultants
Other Duties
- Helps to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior aligned with the IB learner profile
- Serves as a liaison to the House of Commons (parent organization)
- Attends Board of Trustee meetings as and when required
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director/PYP Principal
EVALUATION
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the PYP Principal
