Are you ready to elevate your legal career in the renewables industry Statkraft is seeking a dynamic Legal Counsel to join our team as the second in command working closely with the Head of Legal - USA.
As Legal Counsel you will provide comprehensive legal support to our US commercial team including Portfolio Management Origination and Trading. You will also collaborate with internal stakeholders such as Risk Compliance Credit and Treasury.
In this role you will offer expert legal advice on a wide range of issues including commercial contracts collateral agreements corporate policies and regulatory compliance. In the process of negotiating agreements you will analyze discuss and manage various risk exposures on active matters and will liaise with internal stakeholders to solicit and properly incorporate feedback.
We are seeking someone who will be a trusted advisor demonstrating expertise creativity diligence and responsiveness in all legal matters.
Key Responsibilities:
Contract Management: Draft review and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements including PPAs ISDAs EEIs NDAs ISO contracts futures broker agreements renewable energy certificate agreements carbon credit agreements guarantees letters of credit and services contracts.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant energy regulations and standards. Provide legal advice on regulatory changes and their impact on the business.
Risk Management: Identify and mitigate legal risks associated with energy projects and operations. Develop and implement risk management strategies.
Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise with internal and external stakeholders including regulatory bodies industry associations and business partners.
Legal Research: Conduct legal research on various issues related to energy law and provide actionable insights to the business.
Administrative Support: Managing law firm engagements and billing assorted filings and recordkeeping.
Ad Hoc: Other matters as the need arises.
Qualifications :
Education: Juris Doctor (JD) Admission to the bar in California or the ability to qualify to practice law in California.
Experience: 2 years of transactional experience at an in-house legal department or law firm.
Legal Expertise: In-depth knowledge of energy law including derivative regulations contracting regulatory frameworks compliance requirements and industry standards.
Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide clear practical advice.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
Negotiation Skills: Strong negotiation skills to effectively manage and resolve disputes and negotiate contracts.
Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in legal drafting and review.
Problem-Solving: Proactive approach to identifying and resolving legal issues.
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Time Management: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing legal and regulatory environments.
Ethical Judgment: Strong sense of professional ethics and integrity.

Statkraftmanages critical infrastructure and services in several countries. The applicant must be eligible for security clearance and authorization.
Location:San Francisco CA
Anticipated salary range:$150000 - $185000 per year with consideration for experience.
