Description

The Department of Surgery at Emory University School of Medicine Division of Colon and Rectal Surgery is looking for a qualified Medical Doctor who is interested in Robotic and laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery training and research. All applicants must submit a job application using the Emory Careers Website. The Emory University Fellowship programs were created to foster the development of high quality fellowships included but not limited to General/GI Oncology Colorectal Transplant Plastics Trauma/Surgical Care and Cardiothoracic Surgery. This is a non-ACGME fellowship position overseen by Glen Balch MD.

This one-year research fellowship will focus on Colon and Rectal Surgery with a focus on minimally invasive surgery including robotic and laparoscopic surgery and surgical outcomes and quality research. The curriculum will be split between clinical and scholarly activities. During the year the fellow will be exposed to a broad range of colon and rectal practice and disease at different campuses across Emory Healthcare. The fellow will primarily rotate between Emory Johns Creek Hospital Emory Saint Josephs Hospital Emory University Hospital Midtown and Emory Decatur Hospital. The fellow will learn to perform as both operating surgeon and teaching assistant. Approximately 50% of the fellows time will be dedicated towards research efforts. The fellow will be required to submit at least two manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals.

Preference for this position will be given to those who have already had high quality academic output. The intent of the fellowship is to each competent general surgeons to become specialized in the diagnosis and management of diseases and disorders the colon rectum and anus; teach minimally invasive surgical techniques; and teach the principles of surgical outcomes research.
