This ongoing internship with the Division of Social Services provides a meaningful opportunity to gain hands-on experience in direct client service and case management within a high-volume trauma-informed environment. Interns will conduct holistic trauma-focused interviews to assess client needs and determine eligibility for various emergency assistance programs including shelter support eviction prevention and other crisis services.

Interns will also assist with case management navigate a multiline telephone system and provide front desk and lobby support to ensure smooth client flow and responsive service. This role requires strong customer service skills the ability to manage and de-escalate challenging situations and comfort working with individuals in crisis.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate excellent communication organizational and interviewing skills along with the ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Functions

About the Internship:

  • Ongoing internship opportunity with the Division of Social Services
  • Gain hands-on experience in direct client services and emergency assistance programs
  • Conduct holistic trauma-informed interviews to assess client needs
  • Assist with case management for individuals and families in crisis
  • Provide front desk coverage and support the flow of the lobby
  • Navigate a multiline phone system to assist clients and coordinate services
  • Work with clients facing housing instability evictions and emergency shelter needs
  • Make appropriate referrals to internal and external resources
  • Develop and document client interactions using narrative case notes
  • Support inter-agency collaboration and promote positive public relations
  • High-volume fast-paced environment requiring strong organizational skills
  • Build experience in customer service de-escalation and interviewing techniques

Job Requirements


1.Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree program in Social Work Human Services Psychology Sociology Public Administration or a related field.
2.Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel Outlook etc.)
3. Organized detail-oriented and able to take initiative with routine tasks.
4.Ability to conduct trauma-informed holistic interviews in a professional and compassionate manner.
5.Ability to apply de-escalation techniques such as active listening empathy clear communication and conflict resolution strategies
