GRANBY PUBLIC SCHOOLSSpecial Education Teacher/Preschool TeacherJOB DESCRIPTION Position: Special Education Teacher/ Preschool Teacher Job Goal: To develop and maintain a flexible preschool program that provides an environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to assist students to develop skills attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further participation in the total school program in accordance with each students ability; and to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members. To help students with disabilities learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature able and responsible men and women by Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. The position will consist of a half day preschool program teacher and half day special education teacher/interventionist for students in the lower elementary school. Supervision: Reports to the Building Principal and the Director of Pupil Services. Education Work Experience and Licensure:Required: Department of Education Licensure as an Early Childhood Teacher (PreK 2) and/or Moderate Disabilities (PK-8). MA DESE Certified Acceptable C.O.R.I. and fingerprint report as determined by the SuperintendentPreferred: Prior work experience as a Preschool Teacher. Performance Responsibilities: - Provides learning experiences in language arts social studies pre-reading mathematics science and art using the course of study adopted. Adheres to Massachusetts DESE curriculum frameworks for instruction. - Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school. - Provides specialized instruction for students with disabilities consistent with state and federal regulations. - Develops and uses instructional materials suitable for verbal or visual instruction of students with a wide range of mental physical emotional maturities and abilities. - Provides individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs and help the students make a satisfactory transition to school. - Oversees paraprofessionals as designated by the Principal Director of Pupil Services. - Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve effective participation in all activities without interfering with the naturally informal atmosphere of a preschool. - Evaluates academic and social growth of students and keeps appropriate records. - Assists in screening evaluating and recommending placements of students in the schools Special Education programs. - Completes and maintains records and documentation pertinent to the Special Education Program as required by state and federal special education regulations. - Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays bulletin boards and interest centers. - Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and self-selected professional growth activities. - Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records. - Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day. - Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional mediaconsistent with the physical capacity of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved. - Communicates with parents and school personnel on student progress - Develops programs to meet all physical needs of the students (e.g. toileting eating washing etc.). - Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs as required. - Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities. - Compiles case history data on students for whom additional family history health history early developmental history and environmental history are deemed appropriate per state regulations. - Chairs Annual Review meetings and develops I.E.P.s for preschool students and any student to whom he/she is assigned as liaison. - Complies with district state and federal policies and regulations which includes meeting deadlines for written documents. - Evaluates students academic and social progress keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports. - Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress. - Maintains accurate complete and correct records as required by law school policy and administrative procedures. - Acts as a Mandated Reporter (Chapter 119 Section 51A). - Complies with the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Policy. - Any other duties as may be assigned by the Principal/ Director of Pupil Services
