Job Description

Nicholson School of Communication and Media:

The Nicholson School of Communication and Media (NSCM) is an interdisciplinary school that includes the Communication Film and Mass Media the Games and Interactive Media programs and the Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy (FIEA).

The Opportunity:

The Nicholson School of Communication and Media (NSCM) in the College of Sciences (COS) seeks qualified applicants for the Broadcast Production Specialist I position. This role will provide logistical technical and instructional support for faculty staff and students in the Film and Mass Media Programs. The Broadcast Production Specialist I will work with the Assistant Director of Operations and Facilities in NSCM to foster a student-centered learning environment for media production and film/video production students.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee student-led production teams. Assist show producers and directors with recruitment and training of students for various production-team positions. Monitor weekly student-led studio productions including The Charge and Hitting the Field.

  • Support individual student film productions on the film sound stages. Provide end-user technology support to students and faculty regarding film/video production and post-production equipment workstations and media workflows.

  • Provide day-to-day instructional operational and technical support for students and faculty on the proper operation of professional studio equipment in broadcasting and film/video production contexts emphasizing safety and policy adherence.

  • Collaborate with staff setting up and shutting down equipment and restoring production spaces to nominal state.

  • Assist the Assistant Director of Operations and Facilities in developing and implementing policies and procedures that promote student learning and a positive learning environment in media production and film/video production facilities. Present instructional technology workshops to ensure safe use and proper orientation of equipment and facility resources.

  • Oversee the Broadcast equipment checkout area to facilitate access for students and faculty process extended access requests and monitor checkout staff area schedules. Assist Studio Engineer with management maintenance and inventorying of all professional studio control room and field equipment. Provide backup support for film equipment checkout as available.

  • Provide basic IT and computer support to faculty staff and students as needed.

  • At the request of the film and mass media advisors arrange for facility tours and general program information for prospective students their families and other parties interested in the academic programs offered by Film and Mass Media.

  • Support other duties related to broadcast and film production in the film and mass media program area as assigned by Nicholson School of Communication and Media.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors or Masters degree and 0 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219. Click here for more information.
