The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (MPSY) in the College of Medicine at Texas A&M University invites applications for two (2) full-time open-rank tenured or tenure-track position with an 11-month academic appointment; start date negotiable. Applicants will be considered for the faculty titles of Assistant Professor Associate Professor or Professor depending on qualifications.
Qualified candidates at the Associate Professor/ Full Professor levels are expected to have evidence for past and/or current R01-level federal funding or equivalent. Qualified candidates at the Assistant Professor level are expected to have demonstrated potential to secure external funding.
The incumbent will be expected to establish an independent research program with a focus on geriatric psychiatry to generate extramural funding to maintain research and salary support teaching to clinical and research trainees as applicable and academic service to the department and university are also expected.
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences (MPSY) is a community of scholars and clinicians dedicated to delivering advanced evidence-based psychiatric and psychological care to the Brazos Valley and the broader Central Texas community and to developing the future leaders of mental health care. Our growing clinical enterprise provides integrative and collaborative care initiatives including via a multi-disciplinary clinic with a number of specializations telehealth and advanced psychiatric interventions such as neuromodulation. The department is actively involved in medical education within the College of Medicine and supports an accredited psychiatry residency training program and a social work fellow program. We maintain collaborations with multiple agencies and hospitals throughout the state and departments across the Texas A&M system. Texas A&M University is a land sea and space grant institution that holds the distinction of classification as an R1 Doctoral University (Highest Research Activity) and faculty benefit from the resources and support associated with this designation. The Department is interested in candidates with expertise in geriatric psychiatry broadly defined to include scientists with expertise in bench or clinical trial work related to issues specific to or differently represented in older populations. Preference will be given to scholars who through their research clinical care teaching and service will contribute to the breadth and excellence of the academic community as well as the needs of the population of Texas and the global community.
The Texas A&M Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences has a growing collegial group of researchers applying molecular genomic neuroimaging postmortem brain research and animal model approaches to trauma/PTSD anxiety/depression and substance use disorders.
