SCHEDULE/REMOTE/HYBRID: This position may involve working a variety of schedules including evenings. Remote and/or hybrid schedules are not applicable. This will be a fixed/assigned yearly schedule
RELOCATION: This position is located in Greenwood Village Colorado. Relocation assistance is not provided.
REQUIREMENTS:
Four years of responsible sworn police experience. Previous experience in patrol and in a supervisory capacity is preferred. Associates degree or 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours from an accredited community college or university with major course work in police science criminal justice or a related field is preferred.
Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate valid drivers license and a driving record satisfactory to obtain coverage by the Citys insurance carrier. Possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate valid P.O.S.T certificate from the State of Colorado. Possession of or ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certificates.

The City of Greenwood Village welcomes your application for the Police Corporal position within our Police Department. The purpose of this position is to ensure a safe and secure Village by assisting with the supervision of police officers; performing patrol duties including responding to calls for service conducting proactive patrols and enforcing municipal state and federal ordinances; and performing administrative tasks including report writing scheduling and coordinating day-to-day operations of work assignments.
As a municipal organization Greenwood Village is a provider of emergency services. Some emergency situations including weather-related emergencies may necessitate Greenwood Village employees to assist in areas of work which may not be directly related to the employees specific job function but which will be within the physical capabilities training and skills of the employee.

Essential Functions:
A. Operational Responsibilities
- Performs patrol duties; responds to criminal complaints and in-progress calls; investigates unusual or suspicious individuals events or situations; responds to alarms; detains and interviews suspicious individual; makes arrests where appropriate which may require physical exertion in the form of running jumping climbing lifting or physically controlling a criminal suspect.
- Provides technical support and assistance to officers; answers questions for officers and provides guidance as necessary in dealing with specific situations.
- Performs traffic enforcement functions; investigates traffic accidents.
- Develops reports on activity incidents and events according to departmental policy and procedure.
- Conducts criminal investigations; prepares written reports on findings.
- Assists with the analysis of crime trends; assists with the development and implementation of responses to crime activities.
- Responds to citizen requests and/or complaints; investigates field complaints; gathers information; makes determinations to resolve inquiry.
- Meets with and assists the public in issues related to crime prevention and other areas of concern as necessary answers questions regarding procedures policies and laws for citizens.
B. Administrative Responsibilities
- Assists Sergeant with schedules approving overtime sick and vacation time and reallocating personnel in the absence of the sergeant.
- Writes and submits reports on activities and incidents which have occurred during shift.
- Reviews updated and new policies for implementation; provides feedback to sergeant.
- Provides information in written or oral form for following shift(s) regarding calls received incidents etc.
- Testifies in court as required pertaining to cases involving him/her directly.
- Assists Police Detectives on case preparation.
C. Miscellaneous Administrative Functions
- Attends various committee meetings and associations representing Greenwood Village.
- Performs special assignments as requested by higher level staff.
- Attends training sessions as scheduled or requested.
- Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.
- Two-way radio; cellular phone; computer; remote listening device; computer networking system - NCIC CCIC; firearms and other weapons; drug identification kits; cameras; templates; fingerprint equipment; and other various police equipment.
- Primary internal contact is with officers and with others in the department. Primary external contact is with victims witnesses or suspects other citizens requiring information or assistance and other law enforcement and governmental agencies. External contacts may occasionally be characterized as adversarial threatening or violent.

Supervisory Requirements:
- Assists with the daily supervision of police officers including but not limited to providing daily field supervision and taking immediate action when necessary; planning prioritizing and assigning work activities.
- Provides input on employee performance evaluations on a monthly and annual basis; works with employees to correct deficiencies by providing coaching and mentoring; conducts evaluation sessions in the absence of the sergeant.
- Communicates with others in a successful manner through active listening and effective oral and written communication.
- Works to solve problems utilizing a variety of techniques and resources including the city and other city or government services available private resources or other means through which positive outcomes can be achieved.
- Makes sound decisions under challenging or difficult conditions; appropriately communicates with sergeant as necessary to ensure appropriate and consistent actions.
- Treats others with dignity respect and courtesy while being proactive in making the working environment positive and free of disruptive behavior.
- Supervise organize and review the work of sworn and non-sworn personnel on assigned shift.
- Select supervise train and evaluate staff.
- Receives direct supervision from Police Sergeant or higher-level staff. Assists in supervision of Police Officers and other assigned staff.
Field Work:
Personal contact with suspects victims and witnesses. Position may involve physical contact with arrestees deceased persons injured and mentally ill subjects infectious disease chemicals and weapons in a variety of settings from the officer to the street to burned or exploded buildings and/or to scenes of criminal activity.
Position may occasionally be exposed to hazardous conditions life-threatening situations and may be required to use force physical or deadly when apprehending an offender.
