GENERAL PURPOSE: The Assistant Police Chief Responsible for the proper execution of all assigned duties and the general management and strategic leadership of his/her command responsibilities. Oversees the planning organization and evaluation of operations and activities under the command assignment and the Police Department ensuring alignment with policies and guidelines determined by the Chief of Police. Reports directly to the Police Chief and serves as the Acting Police Chief in the Chiefs absence.
The salary range for this position is $150348.22 - $218005.01 per year with a hiring range of $150348.22 - $184176.62depending on qualifications and experience.
Invited candidates will participate in the Assessment Testing on Tuesday July 29th and/or Wednesday July 30 2025. A formal schedule will be provided.
The examination will consist of two assessment boards and an interview with Chief Doran.

SUPERVISORY:This position is responsible for supervision of City employee(s). Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing hiring and training employees: planning assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge Skills & Ability: Oral communication skills sufficient to effectively communicate complex concepts to individuals and group audiences. Written communication skills sufficient to effectively produce reports articles and research of a complex nature. Managerial skills with emphasis on community relations and internal team building. Driving skills demonstrated by possession of a valid Colorado drivers license. Demonstrated personal computer skills sufficient to complete required work. Ability to read and write the English language.
Education: A bachelors degree from an accredited college or university recognized by the American Council on Education with major emphasis in criminal justice law enforcement public administration or related field. Masters Degree preferred. Executive Law Enforcement Training highly preferred such as: FBI National Academy; Northwestern University Center for Public Safety- School of Police Staff and Command; Police Executive Research Forum Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP); and/or Similar Executive or Command level training. An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may substitute for education requirements.
Experience: Seven years of progressively responsible experience in law enforcement positions including at least three years of experience as a Lieutenant or above with a law enforcement agency at the time of appointment. Must be state certified or eligible to become state certified by the Colorado POST board within one year of appointment; Colorado candidates preferred. Must possess a valid drivers license.
Material and Equipment Directly Used:Motor vehicle computer police radio telephone (cellular and stationary) and other standard office equipment.
Working Environment/Physical Activities:Frequent light to moderate physical effort that includes frequent standing or walking or maintaining arms and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks. Frequently works with light objects and light hand tools. Frequent exposure to routine office noise and equipment. Occasional exposure to hazards typically found in general office environments where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident. Occasional exposure to marginal to moderate conditions that are unpredictable and may lead to injury.
