Since its founding in 1991 ICAN has remained dedicated to its mission to provide free comprehensive programs that empower youth to be productive self-confident and responsible members of the community. The Role

As a Director of Programs you will oversee all aspects of ICANs program operations including: staffing model youth and client engagement program framework and curriculum execution and program quality. You will be responsible for ensuring programs are aligned with ICANs strategic plan and responsive to community needs while also growing to meet demand. You will lead and manage an effective results oriented and collaborative program team to ensure the highest level of program delivery. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer you will do this by:

Program Operational Oversight (35%)

  • Maintaining ICANs Client Journey document to clarify activities and outcomes.
  • Select curriculum develop curriculum maps and lead implementation including staff training and monitoring.
  • Support program managers/leads in staffing all ICAN program sites.
  • Oversee and approve annual program calendars for all sites.
  • Ensure youth and family engagement activities align with program goals.
  • Evaluate program components and collect client feedback to drive continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular program observations to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Lead program teams through growth initiatives and setbacks troubleshooting issues early.
  • Review all program incident reports including mandated reporting of suspected abuse and neglect.

Leadership Responsibilities (35%)

  • Serve as a member of the Leadership Team contributing to organizational goals.
  • Manage and monitor strategic objectives assigned by the COO.
  • Advise the COO on organizational decisions affecting programs.
  • Develop and monitor program team goals ensuring accountability to targets.
  • Hold regular department and 1:1 meetings with direct reports and key peers.
  • Participate in organizational committees as assigned by the COO.
  • Approve department expenditures and ensure budget adherence.
  • Work with HR to recruit hire and onboard direct reports.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews and implement training plans.
  • Build a high-functioning team through strong communication training performance feedback and proactive management.
  • Stay connected with the team to anticipate opportunities and challenges (Manage by Walking Around).
  • Administer corrective action and/or termination as needed.
  • Keep the COO informed of departmental issues needs and opportunities.

Program Funding & Reporting (20%)

  • Support the completion of program contracts in partnership with ICANs Grant Contractor.
  • Ensure contract deliverables align with program design and are effectively communicated to the team.
  • Track program contract deliverables and ensure compliance by assigned program managers.
  • Collaborate with COO to support grant applications and funding alignment with program plans.
  • Assist with program contract reporting in partnership with the Philanthropy team.

Community Partnerships & Collaborations (10%)

  • Oversee partnerships requiring contracts MOUs and ensure expectations are communicated.
  • Develop and sustain school district partnerships in collaboration with the COO.

Role Specific:

  • 40 hours a week
  • Hybrid
  • Requires Travel between Chandler & Mesa
  • Monday-Friday 9:00am-5:30pm

Requirements

Experience/Skills

We care more about who you are than what youve done. That said here are some highlights of the type of person and background we believe would thrive:

  • Minimum of Bachelors Degree in related field or 8 years experience in non-profit program leadership
  • Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience and staff development experience
  • Prior experience in program/curriculum development
  • Prior experience managing multiple sites
  • Minimum of 21 years old and valid AZ drivers license
  • Proven operational excellence in driving consistency across teams
  • Dependable vehicle with proof of current registration and valid insurance.
  • Ability to travel between ICAN sites daily/weekly.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
