AECOM Seeking a Fleet Specialist in the Colonial Heights VA area.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Works under general supervision performing advanced technical work utilizing a wide variety of resources including computers.
- May be responsible for all or part of a project.
- May train and supervise workflow.
- Patrol and monitor a segment of interstate roadways in an assigned region looking for stranded motorists roadway deficiencies site distance problems and obstructions that may cause lane blockage.
- Consistently ensure quality customer service through professionalism timely response skill and courtesy.
- Abide by all Federal State and Municipal laws rules and ordinances and maintain a clean driving record.
- Give automotive gas and or diesel fuel to stranded motorists when needed.
- Provide batter boost.
- Provide minor first aid for the injured if needed until more advanced medical personnel arrive.
- Schedule and coordinate all required maintenance for the Safety Service Patrol (SSP) fleet.
- Maintain up to date records of fleet maintenance in the AECOM portal database.
- Collaborate with SSP leadership to align fleet availability with operational needs.
- Perform regular inspections of the fleet to ensure all vehicles are equipped with the required equipment and that contractual obligations are met.
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned by project leadership.
Qualifications :
Minimum Requirements:
- HS/GED Equivalent.
- 2 or more years prior experience as Traffic Monitoring Patroller or other related experience.
- Proven ability to manage tasks in a professional manner.
- Demonstrated professional maturity.
- Proven ability to manage time and tasks professionally.
- Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check; must also successfully complete Virginia Department of Transportation fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check (CHRC).
- Possess a valid Virginia Class D License and a clean driving record in the last 3 years including no suspension of license or single violation that Virginia Motor Vehicle treats as worth 6 demerits. Employees must also participate in monthly MVR monitoring program and maintain a satisfactory driving record as a condition of employment.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and successfully participate in the programs mandatory random drug screening process.
Work Environment/Physical requirements Essential Functions
Physically able with or without an accommodation to work in outdoor environments with uneven terrain variable outdoor conditions including heat cold moisture dust dryness noise and automotive-related chemicals (e.g. fuels coolants lubricants etc.); position requires frequent operation of vehicles. Work around heavy moving dangerous equipment; often standing/walking. The essential functions of this job include the:
- Ability to lift up to 85 pounds.
- Ability to pull/drag a force gauge to produce 160ft./lbs of force with a contact point of 36 inches off the ground.
- Ability to lift a 40-pound tool bag.
- Ability to perform repetitive bending stooping squatting kneeling and/or crouching and occasionally work with arms above shoulder level.
- Ability to perform fine motor skills.
- Ability to perform hand gripping/squeezing for hand tools and equipment (levers jack handles air compressor jumper cables etc.).
- Ability to occasionally work at heights less than 4ft.
- Ability to climb stairs.
- Ability to descend/ascend vehicle steps.

Preferred Qualifications:
- 4 or more years prior experience as Traffic Monitoring Patroller or other related experience.
- Possess or be able and willing to obtain CPR certifications.
- Basic competency in using computers such as laptops smart pads.
- Working knowledge of basic automotive repair.
- Demonstrate positive customer service attitude - both to co-workers (internal customers) and Customers.
- Ability to work alternate work schedules and on-call duties at a 24/7/365 operation center; Schedules are dictated by need of operation and stated in advance. Schedules will vary.
- Able to maintain situational awareness at all times.
- Adherence to all federal state and local laws ordinances regulations and standards related to traffic and motor vehicle operation and safety.
- Ability to maintain a courteous and considerate demeanor at all times and constantly strive to provide customer excellence.
- Willingness to consistently do their part to contribute and maintain a safe and secure workplace
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
- High degree of autonomy in carrying out responsibilities requires a strong sense of judgement and self-motivation to perform while also working in a team collaborative environment.
- Position is performed outdoors 100% of the time along roadsides in an uncontrolled work environment.
- Uniform compliance to ANSI 107 Class 3 standards and safety shoes meeting current ASTM F2413 standards (program provided).
- Short or no notice work assignments.
- On-Call Status for 24/7/365 operation.
- Must be able to operate with a Safety-first mentality while adapting to changing conditions and at times performing multiple tasks.
- Geographic familiarity with regional freeway system and arterial roads.
- Knowledge/experience of incident management techniques.
- Radio and telecommunications experience.
