Job Description

Kendal at Oberlin is a full-service life plan community which primarily serves older adults in the Quaker tradition. Residents are assured a lifetime of healthcare including short- and long-term nursing services memory care and assisted living. Equally important residents enjoy an independent enriching living experience.

Kendal at Oberlins Early Learning Center is currently seeking a creative and enthusiastic full-time Lead Teacher. This full time schedule could be 8-hour shifts Monday Friday or 10-hour shifts four days a week. Our program is NAEYC-accredited and features unique intergenerational programming giving children the special opportunity to learn and grow alongside our beloved Grandfriends who live on campus. The Lead Teacher will play a key role in shaping the minds and hearts of young learners by creating a caring consistent and engaging classroom environment.The teacher will prepare materials for curriculum and learning experiences in lesson plans while providing a safe and accepting educational environment. Further responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Planning and adapting a creative curriculum based on what most preschoolers should know and be able to do.
  • Assess childrens development and learning through collecting samples of childrens drawings and writings and adding to the childrens portfolios.
  • Paying attention to and supporting childrens interests skills and knowledge.
  • Learn and support all KELC curricula such as Conscious Discipline by setting clear limits for childrens behavior and explain reasons.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A minimum of three years experience working with children 2-5 years old.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or GED with a current CDA (Child Development Associate) credential.
  • Preferred: Associate or bachelors degree in early childhood education Child Development or Special Education
  • Current First Aid CPR Communicable Disease and Child Abuse Recognition certifications or must obtain within first 90 days.
  • Familiarity or training in Creative Curriculum and Conscious Discipline is a plus.
  • A genuine love for working with children and a commitment to preparing them for kindergarten.
  • Must be able to take children outside in cold weather.
  • Must be able to lift children if needed weighing 30-50 pounds.
