EvenUp is one of the fastest-growing generative AI startups in history on a mission to level the playing field for personal injury victims which range from motor vehicle accidents to child abuse cases. We are seeking a Software Engineer to join our Toronto team and help us build a world-class engineering organization that will play a critical role in our Canadian expansion. As we grow our presence in the Toronto area were looking for engineers who are passionate about technology scalability and making an impact in the legal tech space. You will be part of an ambitious team thats committed to building reliable and scalable backend systems for an AI-powered platform thats redefining the future of legal services.
This is a hybrid role with 3 days per week spent collaborating with the team in the Toronto office.
What Youll Do:
Design develop and optimize robust scalable backend systems that power EvenUps AI-driven platform ensuring reliability and performance at scale
Work closely with internal engineering teams to understand new product requirements and deliver high-quality scalable solutions
Collaborate with world-class engineers on complex backend challenges including data processing infrastructure and integration of large-scale machine learning models
Contribute to the development of key backend frameworks libraries and systems to enhance EvenUps product offerings
Actively engage in team building efforts and mentorship to help build a world-class engineering team in Toronto
Play a key role in complex engineering projects from inception to deployment ensuring they meet EvenUps high standards for performance scalability and security
What We Look For:
Extensive experience in backend development and a strong understanding of distributed systems
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python Go Java or C with the ability to write clean maintainable and production-ready code
Proven experience with building scalable reliable systems and APIs in a high-performance environment
Experience working in a startup environment and ability to thrive in a dynamic fast-paced culture
A strong understanding of modern engineering practices including test-driven development code reviews and deployment pipelines
Experience in cloud infrastructure preferably with technologies like AWS Kubernetes Docker and Terraform
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical solutions to cross-functional teams
Leadership potential: Youll help mentor junior engineers and guide the development of best practices as we grow the team
Bonus Points:
Experience working with AI/ML systems particularly in the context of generative AI or legal tech
Familiarity with data science machine learning or building systems that integrate with large-scale data processing pipelines
Previous experience in scaling a backend system in a fast-growing startup environment
