Role Overview:
The Associate Director is responsible for people and project management as part of the Site Leadership Team as well as the development and optimization of synthetic routes of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) to deliver projects on target for quantity quality time and budget.
Core Responsibilities:
- Leads technical and operational areas alongside day-to-day duties to create a positive working culture by acting as a role model in all accountable areas.
- Leads delivery of own and others experimental output with a high degree of scientific integrity schedule and target adherence and quality.
- Works flexibly and reactively to adapt to the needs of project and customer demands.
- Actively demonstrates leadership and compliance with Quality environmental health and safety (EHS) and relevant standards in all aspects of work and develops these areas to fit business needs.
- Ensures relevant process and materials are developed and maintained including developing potential successors to ensure knowledge is retained in-house.
- Develops key accounts leading multiple projects and teams of people effectively by acting as a mentor to others in customer relationships.
- Supervises staff in lab-based activities and project work by understanding strengths and developmental areas within a team to identify areas for improvement and drive optimal performance.
- Exhibits safety awareness by conducting lab and other operations in a safe manner holding themselves accountable for safe behavior in the work environment.
- Applies knowledge and expertise from multi-disciplines to achieve project goals.
- Expertly shares own knowledge skills and experience internally and externally and leads focused projects as a key contact.
- Keeps accurate legible and complete records of all experiments observations and equipment.
- Writes high-quality reports and delivers presentations to customers and management with some guidance in alignment with the project milestones.
- Contributes to sustaining good customer relations and initiates customer interactions consistently identifying and following up on commercial opportunities. Leads others in maintaining the project pipeline.
- Consistently contributes to the production and review of high-quality project outputs.
- Accomplishes other duties which are within the employees skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed.
Qualifications:
- PhD degree (or equivalent experience) in a chemistry related discipline.
- Minimum 8 years relevant experience.
- Proven leadership in industry settings including team management and projectexecution coupled with strong mentoring and coaching abilities.
- Experience in driving operational excellence including developing and maintaining key performance indicators.
- Strong understanding of Microsoft Office and relevant technical software.
- Ability to write clear concise technical reports and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrates good judgment quick decision-making skills and the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Special Factors
- While performing the duties of this job it is required to stand walk and use hands to operate objects tools or controls; reach with hands or arms; climb balance stoop kneel or crouch when necessary for the job activity.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities include: near distance peripheral color perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Regularly works with moving mechanical parts and may work with toxic or caustic chemicals.
- The work may be performed in humid areas with low or high temperatures.
- This work may need to work with a respirator or operate with full-body Tyvek suits and supplied air or PAPR.
