Position Summary

Bow Valley College is committed to fostering inclusive supportive and culturally respectful learning environments. We are currently seeking an Indigenous Learner Success Advisor to join our Student Services team. This vital position plays a central role in advancing Indigenous learner success by serving as the first point of contact for students seeking culturally grounded support services.


In this learner-centered role the Indigenous Learner Success Advisor holistically supports at-risk Indigenous learners as they navigate barriers to access retention and graduation. Through strengths-based and trauma-informed practices the Advisor connects learners to internal and external resources while adapting individualized Learner Success Plans that address academic social and cultural needs. The Advisor also leads proactive outreach efforts to ensure Indigenous students are consistently engaged and supported throughout their academic journey.


This position is responsible for developing and maintaining a culturally respectful intake and support process. The Advisor conducts one-on-one and group meetings to address barriers to student success coordinates safety and wellness supports and triages students to appropriate services such as counselling financial aid and academic support. Additionally the Advisor creates and monitors engagement programs events and data-driven interventions to enhance retention and overall student experience.


The Indigenous Learner Success Advisor fosters strong collaborative relationships across the College and with community organizations Indigenous-serving agencies Elders and Knowledge Keepers. They ensure learners have access to traditional teachings medicines ceremonies and cultural programming and they play a key role in stewarding respectful use of traditional medicines. The Advisor also contributes to ongoing program planning event coordination reporting and the continuous improvement of services based on student feedback and emerging trends.


This role requires exceptional interpersonal and communication skills strong organizational abilities and a deep understanding of Indigenous student experiences in post-secondary education. The successful candidate will act as a key advocate and expert in Indigenous student support participating in cross-departmental initiatives delivering presentations facilitating workshops and raising awareness of Student Services programming through a variety of communication channels.
