About the Role
Talent Depot is seeking a Director of Operations (DOO) to oversee the daily operations of a growing cold storage facility and mobile ice cream cash-and-carry business. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong operational expertise team management skills and a passion for scalable systems.
You will be responsible for ensuring operational excellence mentoring team members managing financial performance and driving strategic growth especially within the ice cream distribution segment. This position is ideal for a candidate who thrives on walking the floor solving problems in real time and leading by example.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
Conduct daily check-ins with staff and walk the facility to uphold standards for safety cleanliness and functionality
Ensure consistent performance in warehouse mobile and retail operations
Maintain smooth workflows and oversee inventory accuracy
Team & Culture Development
Lead with integrity and cultivate a respectful hardworking family-oriented culture
Mentor and develop staff; establish clear responsibilities and cross-training plans
Client Relationship Management
Build and maintain strong relationships with frozen storage renters
Respond promptly to client needs and foster long-term partnerships
Ice Cream Operations
Manage mobile and cash-and-carry product lines
Ensure inventory availability quality control and customer satisfaction
Develop and execute strategies for growth in this segment
Strategic & Administrative Oversight
Track KPIs manage budgets and oversee bookkeeping functions (AR AP P&L)
Monitor operational metrics and contribute to long-term planning
Lead improvement initiatives and identify opportunities for revenue growth
Facility & Maintenance Support
Collaborate on preventive maintenance plans
Ensure regulatory compliance and high-functioning operations
Requirements
10 years of experience in operations leadership (e.g. DOO General Manager)
Strong systems thinker with experience optimizing operations in warehouse logistics or cold storage settings
Excellent communication leadership and problem-solving skills
Experience with financial and inventory management systems
Ability to balance strategic oversight with daily operational involvement
Preferred:
Experience in cold storage or freezer environments
Knowledge of OSHA and warehouse safety standards
Retail or mobile distribution experience (cash-and-carry)
Bilingual in English and Spanish
Local to the Hyattsville MD area or within commuting distance
Proven experience in an operations leadership role, ideally as a Director of Operations, General Manager, or Operations Director in a warehouse, logistics, or cold storage environment A strong systems mindset able to see the big picture, identify inefficiencies, and implement scalable solutions Excellent communication and leadership skills with a hands-on, people-centered approach Deep familiarity with facility operations, maintenance protocols, and inventory systems Comfort managing a diverse range of responsibilities from vendor relationships, hitting revenue and profit projections, to internal training to customer-facing service Strong technology skills, including financial and inventory management tools A passion for getting the details right and for creating an environment where others can thrive Bonus points if you have: Experience in freezer/cold storage environments Familiarity with OSHA regulations and warehouse safety standards Experience in retail, mobile distribution, or cash-and-carry operations Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish)
