Job Description

Schedule: Per Diem 10-20 Hours As Needed Weekends Required Non-Benefit Eligible

Position Summary:

Screens the hearing of newborn infants in the nursery schedules follow-up diagnostic appointments when needed and documents findings and communicates results to parents and hospital personnel.

Responsibilities:

  • Screen the hearing of newborn infants in the nursery by using otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) and auditory brainstem response (ABR) test.
  • Counsel parents of newborns regarding screening procedures results and any need for follow-up.
  • Document screening results and any follow-up appointments in the hospital and electronic medical records according to protocol. Forwards results to DPH national registers etc.
  • Schedule diagnostic audiology follow-up appointments as needed for infants who do not pass newborn hearing screening or are identified in the nursery as being at high risk for developing hearing loss.
  • Interact and work with related services such as pediatrics neonatology nursing etc. to ensure continuity of patient care.
  • Report problems to pertinent medical personnel at the time of screening and to newborn hearing screening coordinator.
  • Utilize hospitals values as the basis for decision making and to facilitate the divisions hospital mission.
  • Follow established hospital infection control and safety procedures.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

Required Knowledge & Skills:

  • High School Diploma/GED and related job experience required.
  • Requires effective interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain harmonious relationships.
  • Requires the ability to read write and communicate effectively.
  • Requires travel for job-related purposes.
