This position is reserved for Federal Work Study (FWS) students only.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development healthy living and social responsibility. The Youth Group Leader is a professional role model. Provides direct supervision of a group of children in afterschool or day camp. Creates positive nurturing relationships with children Promotes supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience while incorporating YMCA core values of caring honesty respect and responsibility when carrying out their job functions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Supervises a group of children and nurtures them through purposeful activities dedicated to building relationships with each child.
Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values.
Responsible for the safety and well-being of children in their care.
Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents children and other staff.
Model relationship-building skills in all interactions.
Makes ongoing observations of the children and can maneuver from one location to another quickly and easily.
Communicates effectively with Site Director and Youth Program Director.
Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
Follows YMCA policies and procedures including those related to medical and disciplinary situations child abuse prevention and emergencies.
Maintains required program records.
Maintains program site and equipment in an orderly manner.
Must be reliable with a good attendance record.
Attends staff meetings and trainings.
Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Proficient in all standard business software (MS Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook).
Complete Child Abuse Prevention training prior to first day of work.
CPR First Aid AED certifications within 30 days of hire date.
Must complete required training hours on an annual basis.
Previous experience with diverse populations preferred. Ability to develop positive authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
Experience working with children is a plus but not required.

Must be able to lift 30 pounds without strain.
