Athletic Trainer & CTE Sports Medicine Teacher

Title: Athletic Trainer & CTE Sports Medicine Teacher

Mission: Established in 1962 Bourgade Catholic High School assists students in discovering and developing their God-given potential through a college preparatory curriculum and the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Statement of the Job:

Bourgade Catholic High Schools athletic trainer is a highly qualified Masters level and NATA certified Head Athletic Trainer who leads our comprehensive athletic training program. The Head Athletic Trainer is responsible for the prevention evaluation management treatment and rehabilitation of injuries for all student-athletes participating in interscholastic sports. This individual works closely with coaches administrators parents and medical professionals to ensure the health safety and well-being of our student-athletes.

Duties of the JobCTE & Industry Specific

  • Injury Prevention & Risk Management:
    • Implement and supervise programs for injury prevention including pre-participation physicals conditioning and flexibility exercises.
    • Educate student-athletes coaches and parents on injury prevention strategies proper techniques and concussion awareness.
    • Ensure a safe playing environment by inspecting facilities equipment and playing surfaces.
    • Develop and implement emergency action plans for all athletic venues and events.
    • Maintain accurate and organized medical records for all student-athletes adhering to HIPAA and FERPA guidelines.
  • Clinical Evaluation & Care:
    • Provide immediate care and first aid for athletic injuries during practices and competitions.
    • Conduct comprehensive evaluations of injuries to determine the nature and extent of the injury.
    • Develop and implement appropriate treatment and rehabilitation plans for injured student-athletes.
    • Refer student-athletes to physicians specialists or other medical professionals as needed.
    • Oversee and manage the athletic training room ensuring proper sanitation equipment maintenance and inventory.

  • Communication & Collaboration:
    • Communicate effectively with coaches regarding the status of injured athletes return-to-play protocols and practice modifications.
    • Collaborate with parents/guardians providing updates on their childs injury treatment plan and progress.
    • Liaise with physicians physical therapists and other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive care.
    • Maintain open communication with the Athletic Director regarding all athletic training matters.
  • Administrative & Professional Development:
    • Develop and manage the athletic training budget including ordering supplies and equipment.
    • Ensure compliance with all Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) and National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) guidelines and regulations.
    • Stay current with the latest advancements in athletic training through continuing education and professional development activities.
    • Ensure that the athletic training room is clean orderly well-stocked and as closely as possible is modeled after a professional athletic training/rehabilitation facility
    • Supervise and mentor any athletic training students or interns if applicable.
    • Represent Bourgade Catholic High School professionally at all times.
  • On-Site Coverage:
    • Provide athletic training coverage for all scheduled home athletic practices and competitions.
    • Travel with designated teams for away competitions as needed.
    • Be available for emergency situations as they arise.

  • Develops and implements a daily and weekly schedule covering all areas of curriculum.

Develops and implements an instructional program according to the needs of the students and the established Diocesan Curriculum Standards:

  • Integrates Churchs teachings in all aspects of the curriculum.
  • Determines levels of student achievement.
  • Uses appropriate teaching strategies to meet individual student needs.
  • Uses resources available to promote learning experiences for all students.
  • Uses a variety of instructional strategies and incorporates technology into instruction.
  • Refers students for evaluation and consultation when necessary in collaboration with administration and parents.
  • Includes all students in presentation and discussions.

Evaluates student progress effectively:

  • Uses a variety of ongoing assessments.
  • Aligns assessments with goals objectives information taught and instructional guidelines and Curriculum Standards of the Diocese and school.
  • Provides prompt constructive feedback on student work and performance.
  • Maintains proper grading and/or reporting system for each student as required by the principal.
  • Meets deadlines with official classroom reports attendance and statistics as required by the principal
  • Maintains daily lesson plans.

Establishes positive school-community relationships:

  • Maintains cooperative relations with all in the school community.
  • Promotes respectful and positive school relationships.
  • Maintains awareness of his/her role as a Catholic schoolteacher and its impact on the community.
  • Provides for regular conferences and meetings with parents.
  • Cooperates with and helps promote various curricular and co-curricular programs within the school.
  • Attends and actively participates in school faculty meetings and in-services.

Continues professional development to remain current with religious and academic certifications:

  • Keeps informed of current instructional practices through professional reading and educational opportunities.
  • Participates in professional activities and joins appropriate professional organizations.
  • Attends diocesan sponsored in-services.
  • Attends and actively participates in school faculty meetings and in-services.
  • Actively participates in the process of continuous school improvement.
  • Maintains personal professional development records.

Performs any other reasonable job-related tasks deemed necessary and/or assigned by the principal or athletic director.

Requirements:

  • Education: Masters degree in Athletic Training or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Certification: Current certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association
  • Licensure: Current Arizona Department of Education CTE teaching certificate or eligibility to obtain.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience as a certified athletic trainer preferably in a high school setting.
  • Skills:
    • Strong clinical assessment diagnostic and therapeutic skills.
    • Excellent communication (verbal and written) interpersonal and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
    • Proficiency in medical record-keeping software and general computer applications.
    • CPR/AED and First Aid certification (current).
    • Demonstrated ability to interact positively with student-athletes coaches parents and medical professionals.
    • Understanding and commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education.
    • Ability to lift carry push and pull up to 50 pounds.
    • Ability to stand walk run bend stoop and kneel for extended periods.
    • Ability to work in various weather conditions (heat cold rain).
    • Ability to quickly respond to emergencies.
