Job Description

Summary

The Security Shift Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision of Security Officers that are assigned on a specific shift. The position also has operational responsibilities that are assigned by the Director of the Safety and Security department. The position works Tuesday-Saturday from 11:30pm-8:00am. The position reports to the Director of the Safety and Security.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Patrol University property on foot and vehicle to identify hazardous conditions take corrective measures to reduce or eliminate inappropriate behavior
  • Conduct investigations prepare written reports collect evidence and gather victim/witness statements of criminal acts and violations of university regulations/policy.
  • Respond to calls for service and assist in the completion of the daily operational Safety and Security duties including but not limited to locking/unlocking classrooms offices dorms exam rooms and buildings. Provide motorist assistance and respond to medical emergencies.
  • Perform the following tasks as need; provide customer service and security for the welcome center monitoring the camera and other welcome center systems open and close the clinic direct and escort quests patient students and employees.
  • Participate in professional development through internal/external sources and serve as a Field Training Officer and/or coordinate field training.
  • Coordinate security matters with local law enforcement authorities as necessary.
  • Respond to any/all emergency/disaster situations drills and document all necessary information.
  • Escort terminated employees as well as disruptive visitors and patients off campus as requested.
  • Provide security for property both existing and under construction.
  • Assist with special events being held on-site at the University and fill-in for other staff members as necessary to ensure round-the-clock coverage.
  • Produce weekly activity reports to Director of Security.
  • Ensure that the appropriate security related documentation is completed throughout their assigned shift.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a positive and professional relationships with all Midwestern University departments and MWU community.
  • Provide input and support the goals and direction of the University Safety and Security department as part of the Safety and Security management team supporting MWU missions goals and values.
  • Conduct and/or coordinate emergency equipment testing to include; tests on panic buttons emergency phones AEDs fire extinguishers cameras and emergency notification system.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The position is responsible for the direct supervision of Security Officers that are assigned to an assigned shift.

  • Coordinate security officer scheduling for an assigned shift.
  • Prepare annual performance evaluations.
  • Coordinate daily safety and security activities for an assigned shift.
  • Conduct progressive disciplinary actions as required.
  • Responsible for shift officer time card entries.
  • Ensure that the appropriate security related documentation is completed throughout their assigned shift.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or GED is required. 6-8 years of proprietary security work experience is required. Previous experience in police or military is preferred. Must have at least 1-2 years of previous supervisory experience. Must be willing to successfully complete internal/external supervisor & manager training as assigned. Must possess a valid drivers license.

Computer Skills

Familiarity with MS Office (Word Excel Outlook).

Language Skills

Intermediate skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Reasoning Ability

Basic skills: Ability apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Mathematical Ability

Basic skills: Ability to add subtract multiply and divide all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to interpret bar graphs.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision color vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
